Hi Runboy,

Yes we've got Sky + it's the best thing since sliced bread. It cost £199 with £1 installation. And now they have dropped the subscription if you already subscribe to any two premium channels such as sky sports 1 and 2. The installtion includes the new sky+ box and an upgraded bit on the dish which improves the reception. To use it you simply find the program you want to record and press record if you want the whole series just push the green button and the entire series will be recorded. You can record 20 hours in total, and soon you will be able to record 2 different programs at the same time whilst watching a third. I can't reccomend it enough..
Oh you can also pause or rewind live to TV upto 60 mins I think.

It's a must!

Sounds like a Harddisk Video Recorder.... shame you can´t get Sky over here in Germany..:-(
I just built something similar for free TV programs out of an old PC (333 Mhz) with a DVB-S-Card and Debian Linux, you can even burn DVD´s of the programs you recorded...

Sorry, may be a little off topic, but I´m very happy to have figured out how to build this thing...:)

Bye, Frido.

Yes, it's a hard disk based recorder-like Tivo if you have that in Germany, and I think maybe one or two others are on the market. And I think the Sky system allows you to rip stuff to your PC's hard disk. I've seen TV cards from Pinnacle and Hauppage (?) which do what you've done-but yours is probably cheaper!

RTV-that's the opinion I seem to get from people-it is a good setup. I've got so many scarts/cables etc on my TV I've given up trying to record Sky, which is annoying as there is more on there to watch than terestrial TV. I might go for it before xmas.

Unfortunately the TiVo is not available in Germany... but I have built the system around the Hauppauge Card, which also was the most expensive part of the system (I got the old PC for free and had the harddisk lying around). The coolest thing is that you can program it via a Webbrowser or the internet (it connects to a Website every couple of hours where you can click on the Programs you want to record...:)
