Anyone in North Bristol with VAG COM?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is anyone local to me (I'm in Filton, BS7) who might be willing to pop over to my house with their laptop and VAG COM? I'm somewhat at my wits end with this car - I am utterly failing to figure out what the problem is, and running out of spare cash to keep chucking new parts at it on the off-chance that one of them might be the culprit.

The only thing I can think is that my code reader is missing something crucial that the proper software would reveal.

The car is now pretty much undriveable, so I'm just hoping that there's someone reasonably close by with the right kit and more expertise than me who might be willing to spare me half an hour or so to check the wretched thing over.

The main fault (one of many) is covered on this thread: https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/festival-of-warning-lights-and-beeping.47020/

Please help - I'm worried my next 'fix' might have to involve petrol and a match!

Check here:

There's no-one in or particularly close to Bristol, but you will be able to see who's closest.

You could also install VCDS lite on your own laptop (buy a KKL cable off eBay), the software, while free, isn't fully functional unless you pay a fee to register it.

Thanks guys - I did see the free scan register page, but as there's no one in Brizzle I thought I'd try asking. As I say, the car is now not driveable, which sucks.

Would the free version of VCDS show me all possible error codes? i.e. fill an any gaps that my eBay scanner might be missing?

I believe so, although it won't provide detailed diagnostic information. But I have the full fat commercial release, so I've no personal experience on this. Hopefully one or two users of the shareware version will be along to give you a clearer picture before too long.

Afternoon,

I notice that this thread has been updated to state that the vehicle is unable to move.

If this was to change over the weekend, I am in Hampshire (Fleet area) next week and happy to do a free scan if you could get to me.

It’s a long shot and I’m sure someone who is a little closer will be along to assist in due course.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hey Tom

Unfortunately at this point in time I can only dream of it working for long enough to get from Bristol to Fleet, but I do appreciate the kind offer all the same! :)

Spend a £10 on a KKL cable on ebay and download VCDS Lite if you have not already done so. Lite only details first fault but gives codes for the remaining so just a bit of searching on the Ross Tech site to decipher the codes.
Really can not emphasise enough that generic readers are not ideal for the A2 and value for money VCDS is certainly up there.

If you get really stuck, Nigel is in portishead, Castle Performance (Tuning and Diagnostics expert) (find him on web), he popped over today and cleared my code history etc. Hes a good friend of mine and hes very reliable honest and knowledgable. He wont be free but if you say Edd said call you, you may get better service!! He aslo said to me today do I want to sell my A2 so maybe hes going to join soon :) Good luck with the task at hand. I live in clevedon so anytime you want help etc or want to pop by say hi!

Thanks very much Edd - good to know there are other owners nearby, and people who know these cars!

If it helps I did stump up for a VW-specific reader, but with hindsight (isn't it wonderful?) I should probably have gone the software route from the off.

Out of interest, do you know why the first two fault codes I'm getting (17961 & 17912) aren't listed on the Ross Tech site?

Final question: do you know if the VW cable is special in some way? I have an old ELM327 USB to OBD cable in the house. Would that work? It's this one, in fact: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363091418948

Probably the active charcoal filter solenoid valve faulty.
Second error i would carefully check or replace all the small vacuum hoses.

Would also probably say the codes are too generic and no match to Audi codes.

I’m in bristol, Bs6 and could pop up anytime next week from Monday as I’m out and about this week.

Al
