Are engine treatment fluids recommended?

Hi guys, I came across this and was wondering if it's worth it.
When the engine (AUA) cold or left for 5+ hours, at start up I get a rather big amount of white-ish smoke, almost fills the drive way, but doesn't smell oil, and lasts only for few seconds and then suddenly nothing. No smoke at all.

I'm aware it could be a few things, bearings, leaking coolant, etc. I've used injector cleaner a few times, but didn't help much.
I've read about this item and many says it's good for smoking engines, mostly for older engines. Has anyone used this or any recommendation? Thanks

I was having an issue with first gear pulling away and reverse gear, I assumed it was all to do with the clutch, after I added BG244K to the fuel tank (used for cleaning carbon deposits ect) the judder has now gone completely. Some products are better than others but as I've used this particular product many times in the past with great results I would highly recommend it.

Oh and to answer your question in my experience yes they can be worth it.

It sounds like snake oil - wear reversal in a can!

However Quentin Wilson endorses it, which while not being worth much in itself, does at least suggest he thinks it can sometimes produce a benefit.

Personally I don’t think this is the answer to your problem though - invest the time and money into properly diagnosing the cause!

If you read the small print on the listing it says it's copper and lead powder suspended in oil.

If there's a dead-cert way of shortening your engine's life, this could be it.

They even say it's not suitable for engines where the oil controls functions such as BMW Vanos. Well Vanos is pretty high tolerance as the Vanos piston is sealed (famously) via o-rings. I dread to think what clumps of lead and copper might do to small oil-ways, your oil filter and hydraulic valve lifters.

I'd write to them and ask to see their independent, third party reports that show long-lasting (say 40,000 mile) positive results including compression tests and full engine strip-down analysis. I suspect you'd be greeted by a maelstrom of nothing.

OP: I'd recommend you spend the £20 on a compression test: if it's fine then you can move on, if it's not, we'll you know you have some bills ahead one way or another and can plan accordingly.

....what if it would just be the condensate that forms in the exhaust pipes and evaporates when the engine starts to heat up?
Ciao

What condition is the exhaust in? Could be the cat and silencers are holding water or partially blocked and that is the steam that is seen. What is the exhaust like on a longer drive and does the vapour also exist on a warm / hot start?

Not when the engine is warm. Smoke appears when it's the 1st cold start, doesn't smell and only last like 4-5 seconds. But it fills the driveway. I'm gonna check the spark plugs tomorrow. Benn like that for months.

Not sure it has anything to do with it, but got EML light with code 17957, (Throttle Valve Control Malfunction, Sprodiac) only start at up 2x this week already. I've looked it up already, so gonna check TB connections, as it was cleaned 2 years ago, so probably not Throttle Body cleanliness the issue, thanks.
