Asking advice on shifter tower on 1.4TDI with EWQ

Hi all.
I have my 2001 Audi A2 1.4TDI 55KW with EWQ gearbox. It has always had (since I bought it 3 years ago) rather sticky gearshift and had some trouble switching gears.
Recently my 2nd and 4th gear disappeared 8right after visiting MOT) and now only have reverse, 1st, 3rd and 5th gear.
After having a look under the bonnet with a friend I discovered culprit to be really work shifter tower.
Compared to this tower shown in video:
my is much worse. Even so much that the tower "wiggles" past 2nd and 4th gears unable to engage them.

So new tower with upper parts are needed but I'm having trouble sourcing parts.
My location is Estonia, Europe.
Since I don't have quite much money buying OEM parts from dealer is a no-go and would total the cost of car itself.
Options are used OEM part or new aftermarket part.
What I have found so far:
Aftermarket shifter tower: https://www.xdalys.lt/en/product/14686975519/
Used original shifter tower: https://www.xdalys.lt/en/product/13878742555/
I tried searching using OEM part nr. 02t301230j If any of you know any more suitable OEM number for my A2, please let me know.

Replacement bearing and seal from Ebay.

Tried to drive to work with my A2: Reverse gear got stuck and not out. Each time I reverse, pop the hood and manually get the reverse gear out.
Guess I have to order something and figure out whether these work or not.

Agreed, this seems to be common issue with these gearboxes. Anyways I found a great local shop and ordered new OEM replacement shifter tower (02T 301 230 B ).
When it arrives, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello,

The video posted above is fantastic and shows the TT short shift set up in action.

I was worried about removing the selector tower when I first did the job. It's not as bad as you may think.

Edit
It is a DIY job and as @Clackers says, transforms gear selection..

Edit 2
I would buy a new unit and do a straight swap but save the old tower and take it to bits. If dismantling and inspecting found the the tower bearing to be rusty but the selector shaft undamaged I would repair the tower and sell it.

Good luck!

Check that you are purchasing a direct replacement for the tower in your box. When I bought one of these from Audi it was a significantly improved design and needed a revised end cap. The cap with a VW logo on it accessed under the box.

I don't think folk realise how cheap a dodgy tower can be, I have done a few of these now and it transforms the gear change as I am sure you would agree Chris. Bit of fiddling and it is sorted for another 20 odd years.
Absolutely young Andrew. I swapped one out the other day-transforms the car.
