ATL clutch & DMF replacement parts

Just received note from seller.
'Just been notified from dispatch and management that the part number you original enquired over has been superseded by the part number you have received.'

My understanding is the 3 cylinder flywheel is different to 4 cylinder flywheel which is what the part number relates to(A1, A3 etc). Anyone able to confirm?

Yes it’s different, its unbalanced (can’t think of a better way to describe it) to compensate for the odd number of cylinders. The one from the 4 cylinder cars above won’t fit it.

When I bought mine I went to a local motor factors instead, can easily return it then if they have issues when fitting.

Is this missing piece here what gives it the unbalanced (in terms of 4 cylinder) and balanced for 3 cylinder feature?

If it is, then it is on the one that @damadgeruk received?
Or do they all have notches like this?

The slot in image above is symetrical with one opposite probably to allow access to sump bolts otherwised concealed I suspect for a four pot
The solid amf flywheel has a single larger cutout

Cannot find pictures from what mine looked like... but can confirm looking from below that bulged bit blocks bolts from sump and needs engine turning over to a point for socket to reach

Ahh yes - I didn't notice the slot on the opposite side!

417001911 pictures have 8 holes for the flywheel instead of 6 on A2, so i doubt it? lists as incompatible when i put in my reg as well.

Then again images on google do show both parts with 6 bolt holes and 8 so could just be using wrong stock images on listings? otherwise they look close to identical to me.

Hmm I suspect you’re right. I’m pulling the plug on this - here is my message I just sent to the seller:

Hello,

I do not think this information is correct.

Here is the LUK catalogue page for 417001911: https://webcat.schaeffler.com/web/s...words.xhtml?result=1602509787016&showResult=1

As you can see in the top right where it mentions the part numbers that this unit supersedes, 417004710 is not mentioned. Also if you click on “PC” further down the page, it confirms this part does not fit the Audi A2 ATL code engine

Now here is the page for 417004710: https://webcat.schaeffler.com/web/s...words.xhtml?result=1602509963764&showResult=1

It does not mention that this part number has been superseded and the “PC” section confirms it fits my vehicle.

If you have sent me a 417001911 then please arrange for it to be collected.

Thanks”

Update on this - the seller refuses to accept the part supplied (which like he supplied to @damadgeruk is 417001911) is incorrect, even when I sent the links to the two part numbers in the LUK / Schaefer catalogue.

I’ve therefore opened a return item case on eBay - the seller was refusing to cover postage but one swift complaint to eBay sharing the info I sent the seller and I just received my pre-paid postage label.

If after the return I am able, I will be leaving this seller a negative kick in the nads, feedback-wise.

Odd, I've had a return accepted though they've yet to reply to my request for 'confirmation of suitability' which means they know it is the wrong one. We all make mistakes, an apology goes a long way.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering how things were going.
Its a pity it wasn't the correct part - would have been a great deal.
At least you didn't keep them then try and get them fitted down the line only to realise they wouldn't fit!

Since this thread has helped me I just thought I would add an update:

The original seller at the start of this post would still appear to be selling 417001911 DMF for a TDI 90 (atl) on ebay.

I have been in correspondence with techniclutch today who have sent this:

"Sorry, to confirm, you are buying: 417004710 with the release bearing. Part number 417001911 is unsuitable for your vehicle hence why we are not supplying it."

Which would appear to be in contradiction to their response I copied above from 2020.

Hope this helps someone one day.

Trevor

My ‘54 ATL at 202k miles needs a replacement DMF and clutch kit

The garage I have used recently since moving to Ynys Môn / Anglesey tells me that TPS no longer lists the parts. All of his usual sources say the LUK kit is unavailable (he says one of their factories is in Ukraine)

Things are desperate: I would like to repair my car (owned since 2009) but if we can’t source the parts, that may be it

Up until today I was delighted when I thought how some owners had only managed 115k, 140k miles on the original DMF

Does anyone have a DMF kit saved away for a rainy day; or does anyone know a supplier who has one in stock?

Thank you, Andrew

Thank you. Is that just the DMF? Mechanic is looking for DMF / clutch kit
If you search the part number there are other listings that show the full kit, all outside UK, will get pricey with import duty and charges also added later...there seem to be plenty of quality clutch kits available in UK, just the dmf is the issue. Worst case is fit a SMF rather than ditch the car if DMF is difficult to source. They do occasionally pop up on eBay, DMFs.
Folks definitely have stock squirreled away, I guess you've tried a wanted on here , and Facebook group? Good luck

I haven’t tried a wanted ad: this post was my first attempt at wrinkling one out 😊
