Less than two weeks ago we disclosed Audi's upcoming premium super mini, the Audi A1 and now thanks to Auto, Motor und Sport we can report that the Audi A1 will make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October as a hybrid model. Earlier reports suggested that Audi would release the A1 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The A1 prices are expected to start at below 20,000 euros ($27,000) and annual sales targets are set at 80,000 - 100,000 units. Michael Dick, responsible for Technical Development at Audi, insisted that the A1 will be "manlier and sportier" than BMW's MINI, adding that "When a father sits gladly in his daughter's car, then we've got it spot on."

What on earth is Dick on about? Its not meant to be like the Mini and neither should they be trying to take the Mini on. The Mini is a heritage thing, its in the blood of many of these Fathers of Daughters nonsense hes talking about!

Surely they would be better taking the BMW 1 series on? I think the Mini has its own appeal, and anybody wanting to buy a Mini will buy a Mini not an A1.

The A1 or next years A3 cabriolet are on my list for my next car.

If the A1 is going to be available as a cabriolet as well as TDI or S1 versions that would be great!

Have to say that I do like the look of it, but not that colour!

I've got to say that I'm actually going off it!

Never have liked 3 door hatches and this one is no different - I certainly won't be putting it on my shopping list, but will reserve final judgement for seeing it in the flesh.

An A8 is looking increasingly attractive though - 3 litre V6 TDI, that'll still just about do 40mgp! And it'll be built as well as an A2!!!

Cheers,

Mike

Dont think the above picture will be the final product design mike, there are a few pictures out there which make the A1 look a great design.

I have posted them on another thread here before.
