Hi!
In the next lines I will tell you the story of a romanian family that now just bought an Audi A2 1.2TDI 3L after having in the past another A2 1.4TDI - AMF (75HP).
I am 23 years old, the only child and the youngest member also. ? We had in the past a few other VAG Cars, like I grew up with a 2002 MK4 Golf - 1.9TDI ALH that my parents bought back in 2007. We had it for 13 years and I can surely say that it was the most reliable car we've ever had. The reason that made us sell it was the rust on the front sills and wings.
I've learned to drive on a Lupo 1.0MPI, short after we bought the 1.4TDI Lupo that I have mentioned above. After selling the Lupo my parents bought an A2 1.4TDI- main reason for going this way was the full aluminum body - Audi Space Frame that this car has. In Romania we have very salty roads durring winter and this is why our firs Mk4 had problems with rust after 13 years here.
We wanted a Lupo 3L or an A2 1.2TDI ever since we fall in love with these small city cars. Last month we had the chance to do an exchange with our 1.4TDI A2 - for the new (to us) 1.2TDI A2.
The car was recently imported from Netherlands. I am curious if the old owner / s is here on the forum. Car was registered with this plate: (NL) 4-KJG-91 .
It is a 2004 model year with projectors and heated seats as main options. It is equipped with A / C and Power Assisted Steering. The dash shows ~ 275,000km. They seem right according to CarVertical and Kenteken Check. It has very clean interior and buttons (common problem with fade buttons on climatronic panel and window switches in A2s).
In my opinion in few more years this cars will become a classic, they were produced in a limited amount and have been over-engineered, so ahead of their time.
Although it is not my car, my mom will drive it the most, I will love to give it a go every time I came home.
We plan to keep this car for a long time in our family, and enjoy that low cost of driving.
: D

Thankyou for the introduction and welcome to the forum. We as a family have also owned a Mk4 Golf Tdi and a Lupo tdi...great cars and the A2 1.2 Tdi is a good choice. Very rare in the UK as it was only made in LHD format. If you need any help or advice please dont hesitate to ask ?

Thank You! I will post here if we will encounter any problems. Engine code being "ANY" I think they will be a few :))) I am just kidding

Welcome to the forum. Given the likely absence of any 1.2Tdi specialists in Romania, you will need to find a good mechanic to maintain your car. Don't take your car to an VW/Audi garage and expect them to be able to fix it! This is also true in Germany! Also be proactive with regards to maintenance, otherwise 1.2Tdi ownership becomes very expensive. VCDS software/cable is essential.

Many members in the UK would love the 1.2tdi. Probably the first A2 to be a true collectible (tempted to say classic but that is another debate). It looks a good clean car. Is it Island Green? From the pictures it is difficult to differentiate from Crystal Blue.
Welcome to the best natured and helpful forum on the web

Yes, I know, not a lot of mechanics know what 1.2TDI is about, and not because it is very complicated, but they just don't care because nowadays this type of cars are at a low price and they just think that doesn't make enough sense to learn to work on them. I have vcds that I use on our other cars and discovered an A2 Wiki page made by the german A2 forum. It has a lot of information about the A2s, especially for the 1.2TDI. If you guys don't know about it I can share it with you.

Yes, it a a beautiful Iceland Green Metallic-6E, in very good shape all around for the age and mileage. I have the same opinion as you, I think this is a quite special Audi, one of the most special between the A2s along side with the 1.4TDi 90HP and 1.6FSI.

interesting you say ‘Iceland Green’. in the UK I believe the light metallic green is known as Island Green (LY7S) VW did do an Iceland Green back in the 50’s But very different. Perhaps yours is a colour not used over here or perhaps even only used on the 1.2. It is worth checking your options label that should be in your service book if you have the original, or on the label under the false floor in the boot. Important to know the correct code for when you buy touch up paint!

The lack of knowledge/experience at Audi has always been the case from new, mainly because there were only about 6,000 built. It's nothing to do with their low value now - that experience wouldn't have been lost!. This forum and the German one will give you plenty of examples.
