Chat Audi a2 on car throttle

Good Friday afternoon fun, thanks for sharing!
Man that car is really rough though....the under-tray hanging bit is unbearable to watch in slow motion ?

An economical s**t box ?
That A4 is good on fuel compared to size and design of A2, makes you wunder if aluminium space frame make any difference to economy.

For stop start it really helps

It’ll be interesting to see what they make of it from here on. Certainly doesn’t seem to be a great example, but then I guess anything for £150 is gonna be rough. But the seats.... is it just me or do A2 seats seem to water mark quite commonly?

Cars have similar air drag, basically same engine (one pot less), so on motorway loads they should perform similarly. But on city etc, less weight starts to come handy. In city, you can even see the difference using start-stop system makes on 1.2TDI. On lower speeds there is advantage of moving only 3 cylinders instead of 4, on shorter trips there is less engine to heat up etc...

(Seat material is bad by my opinion too...)

All those haters on that poll clearly don’t know what we know about the A2.

That car however is in a poor state, I think it needs an @A2Steve or someone on the case.

I think if they got that out of the A4, I suspect they weren’t trying in the A2 especially as it has a gearbox problem.

once it’s rolling their won’t be much in it. Had a friend with a PD A4 estate and on a long trim our numbers were about the same also.

Well thanks to their video I've found this forum and donated to its cause to see what's in the FS section, I don't think I'll end up with one though, as cool as they are, the other half (whom the car will eventually belong to...) does want something bigger...

It's a shame though, I would have loved to hoon around in a 1.4TDI for shopping runs and all that razz.

There may be a silver lining, anyone with a decent amount of brain cells would be attracted by the aluminium body, efficiency and rarity. So you may find the values of your cars increase ?

Hi
Bigger in what respect? People or goods?

People: Due to the lower floor in the back seats it's great for adults. Re number of passengers in the back, there is a variant with 3 rear seats though you can only remove it as a single heavy item (whereas the common 2 seats in the back can have each seat removed separately). Note the 5 seater A2 cannot be converted to a 4 seater and vv due to different floor pans.

See this tread for a guide to the A2 boot

Goods: The A2 is often called a Tardis. See

Good luck in persuading your other half. I'm sure there is a member on this forum not too far from you who will gladly let you and your other half sit in the car etc.

Hey Alan, thank you very much. That's really informative and helpful. In terms of bigger, physical size of car, not necessarily for practical reasons, and instead style (I know, silly reason but we all have our own quirks eh?)

For reference we both drive SUVs, and neither of us have a legitimate use case for them. I bought mine because it was unexpected and really doesn't make sense ? and hers presumably because it's pretty!

I'm after a cheap but cool second car to do shopping runs in and local runs, because 11mpg round town is a bit extreme, would rather use that car for long journeys...

So my comments about size and space doesn't come from a place of criticism at all, instead, superficial and subjective styling preferences.

Fwiw I almost won an auction on an A2 1.6 around 30 minutes ago, so this will happen at some point. Where the wife fits into this is, her car will be up for sale in the new year, and I was trying to aim for a 2 in 1 purchase, i.e. buy something that's more economical than my daily, but something she can take over when she sells her car.

I'm a total car enthusiast at heart and have owned over 20 cars in the last 13 years, in fact I don't even know how many cars ive had now, totally lost count.

The A2 however has earned a spot on my list of a cool car to own ?

Well I need to get my daily mended first, I have a habit of getting lost in the new shiny thing, so once the other little beastie is fixed I'll make a solid effort with the A2 hunt ?

What about the club sponsoring Timnus to get in touch with Car Throttle, and offer to help them sort it? Could be good for the club, good for values etc? If we all chipped in just a little?

I’m in - for a £10.

To be fair to Alex his comments were generally very positive about the car itself - apart from the broken bits obviously. It was feedback from the low brow and unenlightened masses which prompted the title of the piece and the comments on looks. Some of the comments on the video were similar. A bit marmite apparently.

I reckon he’d go for it. Throw in a performance modification and maybe a trip to get the ‘box of lego’ sorted and he’d be raving about its virtues.

He can’t really complain for £150 though...
