Audi A2 vanity light switches

Hello Everyone, I just bought a 2005 A2 1.4 TDI and am trying to fix it. I have a problem with vanity lights not turning on. I tried to replace the light bulbs, but they don't work anyway. I tried to remove the sun visor, but I realized that there is no electrical connection with the vanity light, so my question is the following:
where is installed the vanity lights switch?
I tried to search in the various posts on the site but I only found one that says that by removing the sun visor you can see the switch ..... I have removed it, but I do not see anything.
Thanks in advance to everyone for your cooperation.
sorry for my english
Greetings

Hi Luigi and welcome to the forum :) There's nothing wrong with your English ... it's definitely a lot better than many English peoples' Italian!

If you have the vanity lights in the headlining then originally your car would have had sunvisors with an electrical connection. It sounds like these may have been replaced (possibly to look better due to sun-damage). With the correct sunvisors with the electrical connection, when you have them in the down position and you slide the cover off the mirror, the vanity lights come on.

Not all A2’s had then illuminated vanity mirrors so it is possible that the sun visors have been replaced from a vehicle with the illuminated mirror and put into your A2 which originally did not have the illuminated vanity mirror
Hence the sun visor fits perfectly into the car but there is no electrical connection available in your specific car
Audi kept to the ‘saving weight ethos’ right down to wiring only being installed in the car for the options that where originally specified on your particular car. This means that any retro fitting of parts from other A2’s of a higher spec to your lower spec A2 there will mot be the wiring available in your car
The only exception to this is all A2 came with wiring for heated door mirrors but alas this is the only exception

Your English is very good

To me, it sounds like a previous owner has replaced the sun visors. Some visors have the integrated switch, and others don’t.

Be aware that the sun visors are also different for cars with OpenSky.

Cheers,

Tom

A clue would be whether there is wiring to the lights themselves? If the lights are wired up then as Tom says it looks like someone has replaced the visor for the non vanity mirror version. There are two switches in the visor itself, one in the hing (slip ring I think) and one that operates when the slide cover over the mirror is operated. Late models in the UK are known as ‘special editions’ (not to be confused with SE spec cars) Special editions did not have vanity lights unless specified as options when purchased.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. The RH sunvisor part number is 8Z0857552M / N. And it has no obvious switches or wiring. What should be the correct part number?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation

Bouna Sera,

Suggest you save this in bookmarks/favourites, it is our 'go to' for part numbers.
