Audi book English translation.

The publisher estimated 3,000 copies to make it worth while!

Extract from an email back in 2018

As my colleague already told you we published the book in German only, and as the book is more or less handled by AUDI TRADITION (it’s a book which they are responsible for), I would have to talk to them first, if they might be interested in an English translation. But to be honest, the book has many words, meaning the translation cost would be immense and the print run would have to be 3000 at least.

Thanks for that reminder, which hopefully puts this latest discussion on the topic to bed.

As I believe I said in the original discussion, the only way a translation becomes viable is when there is significant demand in the US. Given that the A2 has never been sold there, and still can't be privately imported under the 25-year rule, this seems highly unlikely.

It all depends how the translation is done. If the publisher does the translation it will be expensive, absolutely. If it was possible to get a license to translate the book it can be done much less expensively.
Why do you hope the topic can be put to bed?

Because these discussions encourage wildly unrealistic expectations.
I see, I’ve just read your handle. Very fitting, lol.
It’s nice to think on the bright side, worth trying once in a while!
I’m tempted to fund it now, do you want a copy if I go ahead?

Huh, is it really possible that there are not 3000 A2 fans out there that would buy the book? I know for 3 enthusiast just in Slovenia and we really did not get much of these cars.

I am not really sure that printing costs are the major problem… I would rather have a printed version.
