Audi's goodwill

Had a scare yesterday with my 1.4 petrol when the engine management light came on and the car started to run very badly indeed. Managed to crawl to the local dealer where upon they agreed to have a look later in the day although they were very busy. Got a call a few hours later to say that an ignition coil had failed, a new one had been fitted and the car was ready for collection. When I turned up at the garage, the service bloke handed me the keys. Price? Don't worry sir, Audi goodwill. Have a good weekend. Now that's what I call good service!

Well, it is and it isn't really.

What you weren't told is that the coil packs are covered by a separate 5 year warranty, as they were prone to failure in many models.

So, you got a result, but it wasn't strictly speaking goodwill.

Cheers,

Mike

very interesting...

one of the coils on our 1.6 FSI died yesterday while i was driving the kids to nursery school...

engine started running very rough and the engine light came on...

decided to call RAC... the RAC dude said it was the Coil on piston 3...

he didn't have the right coil so he called the local Audi shop in croydon...

he spoke to the parts manager... who told him that there was a problem at the factory and they have a waiting list for those coils...

but also told the RAC dude that they didn't know when they would get them in...

what the hell are we supposed to do now?

i guess if i get the car towed to the dealer we can complain after a few days that we should get a loaner car till they sort themselves out?

i can't believe this...

what do you guys think we should do?

just about to call some parts shops in desperate attempt to find a coil...

i can replace it myself, you just unplug the faulty one and plug in the new one...

oh yeah, our car is about 3 and a half years old so the coil should be covered under this seperate warranty?
