Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

O.K. A little help needed to finish this project. It's regarding the wiring. There's a plug coming from the mirror with six connecting wires. The top row of three are (1) yellow (2) brown (3) green. The bottom row are (4) white (5) black and (6) grey. "Deproman" has mentioned that for his mirror, the yellow and green wires are to do with cancelling dimming whilst reversing. The colours mentioned for live and earth are not there. I don't really want to risk damage by randomly connecting pairs of wires to 12 v to test for successful operation of the mirror. I'm hoping that help is forthcoming from the A2OC to help me to get this right. I just need to know which two wires to use. Oh , the mirror originates from an Audi A4 B7 Sline, so if someone can access the wiring diagrams for that model, then that should reveal the correct wires to use., Thanks

Isn't the sensor on the front the factory fit B6 auto light sensor..
It senses the light level and if it's daylight, then there will be no dimming. I'm really keen to get the mirror up and working. All I need to know to be able to do that is which two wires do I use for that? ( positive and negative) I've spent a lot of time on the Internet and I've had little success. All I found was one instance where there was a 6-pin plug and it was a similar mirror (Gentex Audi 015621). The white wire was + and the black wire was -
Is there the potential to cause damage to the mirror by making incorrect connections? Should I just try connecting a battery to the white and black wires? I'm hoping for help here, because I'd so like to get this operating and finished. Thanks
UPDATE
I've JUST found this : https://www.a5oc.com/threads/retrofit-auto-dimming-rear-view-mirror.20729/page-4 Again, those two colours are mentioned as white, + and black, - I could do with some reassurance from the A2OC, but I'm inclined to connect to an external battery and see what happens?

O.K., it seems that my question regarding choosing the correct two wires coming from the new A4/B7 mirror has proved to have been difficult to answer, here on the Forum. I'm going to risk using the white and black wires. So I'm going to connect to the control switch for the open-sky roof. Here's my question .... I need to select a switched live and neutral wire from those going to that control switch. I've spent some time trying to find a wiring diagram showing the wires connecting to that switch, with little luck. ETKA? Can you help, please?

David

Brown wires are earths, as for a switched live why not make up a test light with a 12v bulb and holder then check the wires going to the switch one wire of the test light to earth and the other for checking the voltages probably the easiest way without a diag.

Evening David,

I fitted a auto dimming mirror last year some time. I remember it having 4 wires out of the possible 6 pins.

I’ll take a picture of it in the morning so you can compare. It should be a quick easy job to get it working.

Kind regards,

Tom

Yes, some have four wires .... mine has six. The extra wires are for simultaneous dimming of the side mirrors and non-dimming when reversing in low-light conditions. Colour coding can vary between models, too. I'm determined to do this today, so I'll have a look at your pictures, too, Tom. Thanks
I've been attempting to locate a source for switched live and earth in the roof and near to the mirror. I have an OSS and thought that I'd get it from the switch. There were two wires into the switch (power feed?) and were coloured black and brown. The brown wire was earth. I connected a meter to the wires and found that it wasn't 12 v, but ~ 0.5 v! So it drives a relay, I assume. The other live feeds are permanent. It appears, then, that the switched live has to be sourced from another point ..... the radio? The mirror is in place ..... I just need to get power to it and hope that it works.
It would have been reassuring to have known that the white and black wires coming from the auto mirror WERE the correct ones for connection instead of just hoping that they are ..... oh well ... lets see ...

Fully Sorted! Modified, electrically connected and fitted. Working perfectly! A nice touch is that the small isolating button on the mirror is illuminated. This is a really nice addition to my A2 and I'm quite happy with it. I'll put some photos up in case anyone would like to do this. The conclusion is that it should be possible to choose from a wider range of mirrors by modifying the clamping component so that it will mate with the A2's window boss.
