Auto headlight conversion with coming home/ leaving home lights

The non bluetooth version I have does this via changing the sensitivity setting - ie turn sensivity all the way down and the sidelights come on with ignition and stay on no matter what. This is how I've had mine setup from day one to provide DRL capability - and I've got good quality LED w5w bulbs in there that provide a good strong light.

Excellent; but how do you turn the sensitivity all the way down?

Et Voila

On this the sidelights are called width lights. Why are they called that - no idea :D I also found the stage between steps is closer to 1 second, not 3.

@cheechy I have the same paper, and maybe I am slow, but can you advise how to adjust step by step? Figure 3 gives me two flashes, but how do I adjust?

Figure 4 gives me 3 flashes.

Understand the bluetooth version is easier, but should be possible with the lowtech version also. Cheechy gives me hope

The length of time to hold the switch at the various points does tend to vary a bit, so if holding for a second does not work change the speed you cycle between the various end points. What about using the front fogs instead?

As mentioned; when I do the figure 3, I get two flashes. But how to I adjust? Guess I should have only one flash to have them on at all times?

Fog lights are too «fast and furious» for my taste..

Can't remember exactly but think EACH TIME you cycle the side lights it increases by one until maximum the decreases by one until minimum sensitivity. Could just be a case of try it then check the reaction from the sidelights until you get them on all the time. They still take a few seconds initially to come on due to the car battery protection mode of the switch. Also vaguely remember something about a memory function where you train the light to come on at that point. If so you could memorise bright daylight and set that point to turn on the side lights.

Here is the "Chenglish" instructions for a current advert

Function Description
1. Automatic switch lights --- the switch placed in the AUTO file, when the ambient brightness is lower than the set brightness, will automatically open the wide light and low beam; when the ambient brightness is higher than the set brightness will automatically Close the wide and low beam lights.
2. Automatic switch before the fog lamp --- front fog lights with the light automatically open and close.
3. Manual switch front fog lights --- switch knob in the AUTO gear can manually switch the front and rear fog lights Note: The original car headlamp switch in the AUTO file can not pull out the knob before and after the fog lamp, change the switch can AUTO file Switch front and rear fog lights.
4. Delayed bright light - ambient brightness is less than the set brightness, the key power open after 10 seconds to open the low beam, in the 10 seconds to start the engine can protect the battery.
5. After the launch of the bright light --- ambient brightness is less than the set brightness, the key power within 10 seconds to launch the car, low beam will open within 3 seconds to facilitate emergency driving at night.
6. Tunnel mode --- tunnel mode is convenient to tunnel and more high-speed road driving, the mode is turned on, will detect the light intensity suddenly dimmed quickly open the low beam and wide light, you can effectively solve the tunnel feel slow Problem; the drawback is that when driving in the urban area will open the bridge near the beam and show wide lights, it is recommended only in the day when running high-speed tunnel mode.

Function settings
1. Set the wide light --- the light switch on the wide light file for more than 3 seconds, twist to the low light stalls stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to the wide light file, the lights flash twice that set the success , Do not flash that the current brightness is too bright, set the failure.
2. Set the low beam --- the light switch placed in the low light file for more than 3 seconds, twist to show wide lamp stalls stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to the low light file, the light flashes three times that set the success, Does not flash that the current brightness is too bright, set the failure.
3. Set the front fog light --- the light switch placed in the wide light file for more than 3 seconds, twisted to the ATUO stalls stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to the wide light file, the lights flash once said fog lights near Light automatically open, flash twice that the front fog light does not open with the low light
4. Set the lighting delay --- the light switch on the O file for 3 seconds or more, twist to the AUTO file to stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to the O file, the indicator light once to detect the light is less than the set value of 0.5 seconds (Normal mode), flashing three times to indicate that the light is less than the set value of 5 seconds after the light (delay mode), the light is turned on (the tunnel mode), flash twice to detect the light is less than the set value of 3 seconds after the light (normal mode)
Note: The tunnel mode is suitable for high-speed road running tunnel, and the tunnel will light up immediately. Ordinary mode to adapt to running fast city road, usually within 3 seconds through the bridge hole, to avoid the day off the bridge hole lights. The delay mode is adapted to run the slow urban road, usually within 5 seconds through the bridge hole, to avoid the daytime bridge hole lights.
5. Switch fog lamp --- switch in the AUTO file, when the wide light or low beam open case, the headlamp switch twisted to show wide stalls stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to AUTO file, you can manually open Front fog lights, and then repeat the operation once to close the front fog lights.
6. Switch fog lights --- switch in the AUTO file, when the wide light or low beam open case, the headlamp switch twisted to O lights stalls stay less than 1 second, and then twist back to AUTO file, you can manually open After the fog lights, and then repeat the operation once you can turn off the fog lights.
Can not believe in this day and age that the translations are as bad as an episode of 'Allo 'Allo.....

Ahh think I get it now; so setting the sidelights is by the sensor, and not by any predefined light-intensity levels by the knob. Ie the figure 3 just saves the ambient light detected by the sensor and that will be the threshold when to switch on and off (thus if I direct a flashlight towards the sensor while performing figure 3, sidelights should be on at all times)

Will try that tomorrow - thanks guys!

Repost the photo in this tread as well as an alternative much easier way to install the auto-switch. It has a few drawbacks do to it like this, but those are in pratical and subjectively not important.

It's hard to appreciate this photo? It all looks "brand new"? WOW! I had to modify my unit and improved its appearance with a chrome ring around the knob. It wouldn't have been required if the appearance was as good as your photo. I wonder if you can explain, please?

Just remember if you fit an auto lights switch the original lights fascia will be out of position as fascia sidelights would now be Auto and fascia headlights now sidelights and no indicating position on the fascia for new headlights. Not sure if that is OK under the current MOT regulations. The chrome ring is not mandatory but just provides a neat seal between the new auto light switch and the now cut original fascia.

Yes the «auto» position is (obviously) missing in original fascia, ie sidelights is «auto». But this is how the switch now is programmed; sidelights as DRL (ignition on), while main beam comes on at dark.

The knob is also not flush with fascia so the push&pull to remove the switch is no longer possible (remove the clips before inserting the switch in the dash!) But this is no problem because the switch stays perfectly in place in the dash anyway.

Not sure about MOT in Norway, but in general believes MOT is about working lights and not how they are switched on. The nice thing, is that the original switch (fascia) is not completely destroyed so easy to swop back to the original knob. And also the conversion is much easier without any need of a Dremmel to carefully cut the original fascia.

Hello Mac,

Hope you’re well.

Here a picture of what I purchased back in 2018:

I upgraded from the non Bluetooth version after fitting an auto dimming rear view mirror and haven’t looked back since. Being able to adjust the auto on function along with other settings is so much easier than having to do it manually with constant twists of the headlamp switch.

The item number in the above image doesn’t work but the same seller has this new item number for sale. Link here. The item I got from this seller has the addition of the correct illumination for both front and rear fogs.

With a little dermal work you can also add the new icon ring that it comes with so you have the correct icon for what is selected. Additionally you can purchase for very little money an aluminium ring to make it look even better and hide any flaws in the cutting/dermal process. It was an hours work which was so satisfying once completed. Picture below of finished mini project:

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom interestingly I contacted the seller in the last few days to get a direct response to the question on rear fog lamp indication on the switch.

The answer I got looked like no but what I got back was "Sorry, this item cannot adjust the fog lamp" which I have to admit thoroughly confused me as its almost as if they have answered a completely different question. I've asked again and am awaiting another confused response :)

edit: response back from seller confirms that rear foglamp indication is not supported / does not work. I'm not sure if this is correct or not but for sure if the question is asked and you get a no back then its not worth the gamble of ordering to them find out the response was accurate and there is no comeback with the seller.
