I felt sorry for the abyss of nothing in the article section for the 1.4 petrol section, so I thought I would add this article from 'Autocar' I found on the Flickr website.

If you click on the different page spreads, then 'All sizes' in the top left of the screen, choose 'Original' the pages become a lifelike readable size.

When looking at purchasing a car it’s always helpful and reassuring to be able to read something like this, before laying down the cash.

I remember before I purchased mine I was momentarily put off by some website claiming only Audi workshops could open the bonnet! What tosh! That’s the internet for you though...

Very interesting article, particularly when read in retrospect... shame they got it so wrong about outselling the A Class though!

Totally fascinating. Funny how i convinced my sister to get an A class then I go and buy an A2. Much happier with mine but we often compare them to one another, headroom, bootspace, comfort etc. As far as I can see the windscreen in much closer to the front seat occupants than I like on the A class but this does generate a bigger but not deeper boot in the A class. Just sit in an A class upfront and you'll need to duck to pull the sunvisor down!

Interesting article. Especially the praise they give to the 1.4 petrol engine which is normally slated by most people on here.

And I think you will be even happier with your A2 when the A-class starts to rot around the wheel arches...:)

For the life of me I don't know how they could find the 1.4 petrol "quiet"... Maybe it was quiet for the competition in 2000...

Thank you very much for linking to this, I enjoyed it a lot.

I just spent nearly 2 weeks with a brand new Misubishi Colt courtessey car, and trust me, the 1.4 petrol is seriously quiet after that. Everything is quiet, I was soooo glad to get the A2 back.

I think my 1.4 petrol is quite quiet too. Although golfs are actually silent

Although a lot of people prefer the diesels, especially the tdi90's, Im a serious petrol head  and love my 1.4 petrol especially at 3000 revs

I'm a petrol head but you can't beat a TURBO;), so i would say i'm a turbo head aswell thats why i went for the deisel

..but you can't beat a TURBO;) ...

Oh yes you can! When that turbo goes bang (lovely 1.5L turbo F1 engines :D)! Naturally aspirated is definitely preferred.

Having said that, turbo is rather efficient in terms of emissions as well, like the 1.4TSI.

Meg, you said 3000rpm and respect! It is lovely at that rpm, especially in 3rd, and it sounds right. Only if it the red line is a little higher than 5500rpm, because it sounds a bit racy (for a small car) at 6000+rpm!
