Hello,

Glad to be back.
Quick update on the 1.4 BBY its nearing 270K and the restoration work has made it a dependable motor.

Meanwhile the TDI 75 requires a couple of fixes this autumn, (2024) namely the installation of a MYP gearbox and an overhaul of the fuel lines.
As you may recall I took a break from A2OC and with the spare time I did a spot of gardening.
The yard had some old crumbling sheds that were taken down followed by a spot of landscaping and finally 2 new sheds were put up.
One of them is my modest workshop with its small section of green roof. Very pleased.

I look forwards to the tdi jobs and hope they are of interest.

All the best,

Andrew

Thank you all. The garden is very calming.
However.....
Inside the mini workshop its a different story it stinks of gear oil.

So glad you are back! you was one of the 1st that reached out via PM when i joined this great forum!

Nice to see you have been busy your project your garden looks great! look forward to the updates on your car

My rough plan

I have been making notes and will start with taking the front end off the car to give more room for documenting the work soon.

I expect to have one thread showing the gearbox removal as an overview.

In the background I'll create a 'how to' thread using information from A2OC and add in any findings.

About half way through the gearbox thread the fuel hose thread will start.

All good stuff.

I though you may ask. :)

Changing from third to fourth can't be rushed with this old MAL box or it will crunch. 😣 I have to pause in the gate before selecting 4th gear.
Its not intolerable but after four plus years I'm definitely ready for an upgrade.
I thought about selling the car before I settled on fitting a gearbox.
I spent hours looking at slightly newer cars with the 1.6tdi or 1.6hdi engine for around 3 grand but none of them are close to being an A2. Therefore my best option was to spend a bit of cash on a MYP gearbox that I could take to bits without worrying too much about breaking in the process.

The blue tdi will be fun to drive again with faster shifting gears.🤞

Welcome back and pleased you are back. I too have TDi jobs this autumn and, having seen your successes working outside, I too will be working outside. Not as quick as you so expect to be still out there in winter 🥶
