Hi

Got in the car tonight battery warning lamp is on , not flashing . I have a newish battery assume this is alternator failure ? The alternator failed on my last fsi but went through a couple of weeks of lamp on , lamp off before it gave up .
Any good way of checking to confirm what the problem is before replacing please ..... I have a multimeter and a basic fault code reader so testing is no problem .
Many Thanks

Easy check with the voltmeter start engine check voltage at battery should be about 12.8-13.2 volts depending on battery level of charge, turn on main beam, heater and other electrical consumers voltage will drop to 12.4-12.8 volts approx............if its showing 12volts or less then the battery isn't getting any charge from the alternator.
Another quick check, check voltage of battery with engine off (note voltage), start engine, has it changed? if up its getting charge........... if the same or less its not getting any charge.
Hope this helps
