Battery Light flashing

My battery light has just started to flash in the cluster, could this be the alternator on the way out?
If so, are all of the diesels the same?
We have a 2005 1.4 75bhp
Cheers in advance for help ?

Yep, it's a module on the alternator. If the output ever exceeds about 14v then you can probably assume that the alternator is good but the regulator is on the way out.

The good news is on the Bosch alternators the regulator and brushes come in a pack...
See this video..

When you remove the alternator if its down, remember to mark the direction of travel on the belt as it must run in the same direction on refit ( unless you fit a new belt ). While it is off check the bearings are smooth and the over run clutch looks good. At this point you may want to consider replacing the alternator with either a new or reconditioned one - believe you will want a 140amp one.

Also check the one way bearing in the pulley is smooth and not slipping This failing also causes the light to flash. If the pulley is slipping it often welds itself to the alternator shaft. There is a tool for removal and refitting its quite cheap.

Remanufactured one here. Just make sure you get one with the correct brackets. Any extra terminals are not needed. It is an exchange service so need to send the old one in.

But before you do any of that make sure the belt is in good condition, the battery is not dry, the battery terminals are both clean and tight including the extra positive power leads on the positive terminal, the under headlight engine earth is good ( you could temporarily use a jump lead between the engine block and chassis ) and the connections on the alternator are again clean and tight.
