Battery recommendations.

Discount was 10% for Blue Light card holders but I do believe there are other codes out there

My F19 arrived only 30 mins ago from Tanya....95 quid

reading 12.4 volts after unpacking.
Original at the back, about 14 years old

Exide batterys are awesome from my experience and my first choice!

Amazing how people's views can vary due to their experiences as mine is the exact opposite!

Having bought and twice replaced an Exide some years ago I wouldn't buy anything but a Varta as I have never known batteries last as long as they do.

You can buy cheaper, yes but better, no

Perhaps the better comparison would be with the 16.5 years you've had with the original Varta.

mmm, not so sure. Just like my Miele dishwasher 12+ years old and still going strong but replaced due to kitchen refit. Replacement Miele died after 3 years.
I do agree though Varta is the best choice based on track record but budget sometimes has to dictate.?

I totally agree with you on paying for quality, our Miele G2870 from 2007 is still going strong today. It was purchased on recommendation after going through 2 Bosch dishwashers in 5-6 year.

I’d also stick with Varta as they have shown just how long they can last. I’ve still got one here which is in my 2002 (52) A2. It was struggling but now much better after a CCCU swap. It’ll be replaced with a F19 when the weather cools down later in the year.

Kind regards,

Tom

Still 100% recommend Yuasa-cheaper but still bulletproof-there is a reason their battery tech ends up in UPS modules and backup power for alarms

I do agree that very few things are of the quality and have the longevity they used to and I believe that is partly due to, even the previously renowned 'top quality' companies, selling their souls and moving production to China.

As a result the quality drops but also the lifespan of the product, which the manufacturer is probably delighted with as people have to buy a new replacement sooner, making them even more money.

I have always bought Bosch professional tools but they are nothing like they used to be and i've had so many give up after very little use, which is more than disappointing the money they cost.

Even Hugo Boss is made in China now for goodness sake.

With technology most things nowadays could almost last forever but it seems only the very old things seem to as they were designed and made to last, built with care and pride, which unfortunately seems to be becoming a thing of the past.

Saying that there are a few exceptions. I was amazed at the quality and pursuit of perfection that Pagani has and if I won the lottery one of those would be top of my list ?

I'm pretty sure my 2001 1.4 petrol needs a new battery. It's got an Exide EB712 71AH at the moment.
I'm not sure how old it is. It went completely flat 3 weeks ago after being inactive for about 6 weeks during lockdown.
It was nearly flat yesterday after a week; low dash lights, no starter.
It's showing 12.22 volts today after charging yesterday, and 14.2 when running, so alternator's ok.
Any recommendations for a replacement please. TANYA price £63.50 for the same, 3 year warranty.
I don't use the car that often; couple of times a week on average, but mostly longer journeys when I do.
No Chinese rubbish please.
Thanks.

I fitted a Varta F18 from Tayna when on offer. I believe F19 will also fit.

Thanks. I'll check them out.

The F19 is the correct size from Varta, and is to be preferred to the F18 in terms of longevity. However, Varta now recommend the E44 across the entire A2 range,, which is shorter and weighs even less, since it is the same 190mm height.

I fitted an E44 battery to my A2 a couple of years ago, and have been more than happy with the performance thus far.

I was worried about the height, 190mm against 175mm for my current Exide. My car has the false floor. I don't know whether this makes a difference.
Might be better with the F18, as the extra length will still fit.

Check the Varta battery recommendations for yourself on their website:

190mm height batteries were supplied from new in the A2s, and fit just fine under the false floor.

Personally, I would only buy a Varta battery and would use the F19 for a TDI and E44 for the petrol but as others have said the E44 is probably fine for the diesel too.

Generally the taller the battery the better ?

I would certainly check the earth cable behind the passenger headlight first though as this could well be your problem given the readings you are giving when testing your current Exide battery ?
