Hi rhyd4

This foxed me too. The problem is that the moulded foam insert that holds the bottle of tyre repair goo, cannot lift up as it catches on the inner panel on the rear of the car. The solution is to unscrew the panel (3 torx screws) and remove it. This then allows the moulded foam insert to be pulled up, once you lever it past the metal bit that sticks out from the partition to the battery. This then lets you see the two bolts that hold the partition and battery in place. Undo the two bolts and pull the partition up. Refitting is the reverse.

cheers john, i figured i had to take half the back end out to remove it, audi never do anything simple.
i didnt need to take all that apart on the cold morning when i was already late for work.. brute force it was:p

My original battery has lasted 6 years. Even after several complete recharges it kept me going. This morning we were leaving on a short weekend getaway. Not! Battery was completely dead. I decided it was time to get a new one. 130 Euros later I could not figure out how to get the old one out. Thanks for the insight. I knew I could find an answer here on A2OC. Ciao!

whats the replacement battery options for the A2?
Must be lots of A2's needing new batteries in the next year or two.

Mine is 6 years old, never normally keep one that long!

I can't really recommend the bosch silver ones, they're not too good at seriously low temperatures. OK, you'll never see these (-20 and lower), but still, it should do better.

whats the replacement battery options for the A2?...

I should think anything matching the fitment/shape/whatever code on the existing battery which also meets the minimum required Amp should be fine. Special cases like extreme weather conditions excepted ;-).

Eventually, I couldn't be bothered and got the 'Calcium' variety battery matching the code on my old one from local halfords. I think it also exceeds the existing electrical requirements. I didn't want to deal with mail order otherwise I was told I could have got a Yellow Top battery for that price; I needed it quick... Anyhow, mine comes with 4yr gaurantee and it is a brick and mortar store with someone I could speak to in person, if anything happens. The battery test guy told me the Halfords Calcium battery is basically Bosch Silver, their test equipments are bosch supplied too.

Removal of Battery - Audi A2

This post maybe too old for most, but it helped some way when I 'googled' 'how to remove a battery from an Audi A2'. I suffered the same problems as the majority of you, in that anything I tried didnt seem to work. Thanks John, your post helped some way, but it seems in these days of 'mass-production' no two cars are the same. No torx screws in my boot, just two plastic plugs and ofcourse when I prized the first one out, it flew off down a hole and wedged in a small gap... Grrrrr.

So I've had to register in order to thank contributors and (try) to post photos of what I had to do.

1. Lift boot floor flap
2. Remove the foam insert holding the wheel spanner, etc.
3. Push the 'tab' on the battery compartment 'plate' forward. This allows (just) enough room to lift and rotate the 'puncture liquid' foam insert towards you.
4. rotate as much as possible towards yourself, then 'slide' (with a bit of force) the foam insert to the right.
5. This should now have exposed the battery compartment panel with two M10 bolts.
6. Undo the two bolts, un-'click' and remove the panel and hey presto, you can now remove the battery.
7. reverse the process to install battery (except that the holding flanges on the bottom of the new battery didnt fit, so I've had to place the battery in position and wedge it in. Doh!

I just love cars!
(photos not in order. pc re-ordered them every time i tried to edit them)
Hope that helps future sufferers.

Great first post show-man! That foam insert sure is hard to shift. Once you understand how it rotates, a determined bit of levering will shift it.

I was glad to find this information this morning. Thank you.
Our little darling has been abandoned for a few weeks as the wipers have packed up, and the neglect has killed the battery - possibly the original one!
I have been searching and hoping to find a wiper motor at a price that I can face paying, but no luck so far!

Don't give up on your old wiper motor - there are are a few things to try in these threads -

Wow, blast from the past. I posted on this topic in 2009, and yes...I am still on the original battery!!!
Famous last words. Lets see if I can get the battery to 9 years.

That helped a lot, was about to start pulling for queen and country!
Thanks!

Hi guys,

At some point in the past a bottle of tyre "goo" has leaked into the boot and previous owner never cleaned it out. I would really like to clean this sticky mess out. My boot has two foam inserts; a narrow one at right (as you look into boot) which contains the jack, and a larger one running from left to right which contains the rest of the tools including a mini compressor and a new bottle of goo.
I realised to remove the big foam insert i need to remove the plastic panel on inside of boot so removed the 3 torx screws but still no movement. How does this panel come out? whats the trick?

As an aside my battery looks like the original, its a 53 plate car and has 70k on the clock

many thanks!

As well as the 3 Torx25 screws, the piece is held in by the rubber seal around the boot opening. It's also loosely slotted into the adjoining vertical trim pieces to the left and right of the opening.

Cheers,

Tom
