Wh knows anything about the alarm system? - mines decided to go off whenever it feels like it! - one thing I've noticed is that the boot light does not seem to go out when the boot is closed and the alarm 'set'. The light seems to settle into a gentle pulsing rythm - which is nice but also flattened the battery during the week. I guess this may set the alarm off so I disconnected the light and.....the same thing happened again. One thing I have noticed - since we've had the car - is that when the doors are opened after a eriod of around 30 seconds the interior lights flash - again in the pulsing style. I pulled the carpet on the passenger side and checked the connections (for what its worth) to the KOMFORT electronique ( I like the german spelling better) module. When the lights are flashing this seems to click light a relay would. The ESP light also makes a brief appearance every now and then on the dash. We like our A2 but our experience to date (3 years) has been that its like a faberge egg - beautiful but fragile! what with various small issues - ESP, engine management light, temperature sensor and poor starting, stealership servicing, etc. I'm reluctant to take it to our local dealer (Northampton Audi) since all they seem to do is jack into the OBD port and read the script without actually thinking about what they are doing. Phew - marathon session this - any pointers?

Changes are good the switch in the lock to your boot has gone. They regularly go on A2s. So what happens is that the boot light does not come on when you open the boot. Most people (as I at first) think the bulb went. But then the alarm malarkey starts. When you lock the car the computer thinks the boot is shut. When you walk to the car and only unlock the boot the switch does not tell the alarm that the boot has opened and it does not switch the internal sensors off. Then after 30 seconds or so the alarm goes off...

But the intermittent electric disco lights... Hmmm not sure on that one. Good luck finding it!

Thanks for that - whereabouts is the switch located? - in the boot lid or underneath the catch on the boot sill?

Cheers - Sarge

Finally bit the bullet and took it into my local stealer - Northampton Audi. £325 pounds later (£95 pounds for 1hrs labour) and one new Comfort Electronic Module the alarm stops beeping and the boot stops opening at random - and I got to drive a spanking new A4 S-line TDI with the £2K wheel option and Bose sounds - I was praying that they would'nt have the parts in stock but I guess I was paying for the pleasure anyway.....

Does anyone no where this electonic module is fitted and would it be easy to replace yourself as mine has gone on the blink i think !!!!!!!!

Hi wooly

It's in the front passenger side footwell as indicated in sarge's first mail. Replacement is probably straight forward but the new module may need to be programmed using VagCom after installation.
Are you sure it's not just the tailgate switch which has failed as this seems to be a more common problem. Mine has gone and the symptoms are as described in the previous mails - boot light does not come on and alarm sounds if the boot is opened first.
Must get round to removing the tailgate trim panel and checking the switch which is built into the lock assembly. Does anyone have any tips on taking the trim panel off

Cheers Spike

Its sounds like we both have the same problem with the boot light not working and the alarm going of when you open the boot
if you find an easy fix then i would like to know how you get over it !!!!!

Fraid not - did see our tame mechanic Chris put our trim back on. Took two people and a fair bit of fiddling!

I keep telling Chris he should have a PC in his office at the workshop! He left his job running a Honda dealer's workshop so that he could get back to spanner work, so I think he's anti the idea.... I have to print the pages off fro him :)
