Best wheel and tyre set up?

I'm looking to change my wheels and tyres and just curious what you consider the best size and set up? Are there any advantages to staying with the standard 16" rims or perhaps going down to 15"?

Thanks:)

Pepperpots with 185/60/15: Light (so helps fuel economy), grippy enough, lots of tyre options, comfortable - also slightly reduced tyre noise from the wider options.
Thanks for that. I have had a look for these but they seem hard to find? I've been checking on here too from time to time.

I've got a set of Audi A1 alloys like these on my 1.4 Sport:

15" with Bridgestone Turanzas all round 195/60. No rubbing, good grip (wet or dry), comfortable (compared to the RS4 17" that were on the car) and low rolling resistance tyres coupled with light wheels seem to make the car faster with better MPG. Search Audi A1 Ronal on fleabay...

Loving the cheeky chappie in the back!

+1 for this. So so much more comfortable than the standard 185/50 16

Define "best" :) Best for looks or fuel efficiency or comfort? There are trade-offs.

I also forgot to mention looks - although slightly small visually versus the tyre wall, the 15” pepperpots take a few years off the car visually in my opinion, as they look to me like something that would have been fitted to a small car from around 2010, like a Fiat 500 or Panda of that vintage.

They look better to me than the standard polished 15” alloys anyway and hence are the default option for maximum comfort and economy.

There is no 'best' wheel/tyre combo - it's all about what you want from them.

For comfort, go 15" with a corresponding tyre. Want cheap, go for anything 16" from an old A3 or TT (or Polo etc) and select a cheap 16" tyre size.

If you're into larger wheels for visual impact, then 17" is great, 18" do-able with very low profile rubber, but they both have trade-offs in the comfort stakes, and as we're all aware, the A2 isn't best at suspension suppleness.

This is a very personal thing and only you know what's best for you, depending on looks, comfort, price and so on. There's a definitive wheel/tyre thread on the forum that will give you plenty of bedtime reading.
