hi guys,

i will be heading off early Saturday morning to Lichfield in Birmingham for my mates wedding :) cant say im looking forward to the drive but i will be taking my a2 as its more economical than my mates vw amarok.

are the roads down by a nightmare and any suggestions on which roads to avoid? apparently there is a toll road so not sure to use it or not but if its unavoidable then so be it.

i will be using waze sat nav app on my htc so hopefully get there in one piece!

the journey via google maps is 282 miles so dont think i will make it there and back in 1 tank of fuel :(

cheers

Not a nightmare at all Cammy. It's a breeze of a journey. Check for roadworks and congestion on Google navigation before you set off. Unless it's an accident or a real gridlock job you're just as well sticking to the M6. There's a few 40 mph average speed camera areas due to road improvements ( at least there were on my journey to the A2cars open day). Take the toll road. It's only 4 quid and will save you time than taking the old M6.

I avoid the toll unless I'm really time pressured, as £4 is about 1/8 of a tank, which is at least 40 miles. The detour is less than 40 miles, so the skint student within me takes the cheaper option :p

To which I'll throw a spanner into the works...

HMRC allows employees using their cars on work business to claim 45p a mile, it not only takes account of fuel but oil and everything else that leads to parts being replaced, service costs and depreciation as the miles go by.

So a real life cost on their sums is £18, but I think petrol was under a £1 when they last did those sums.

Only mentioning this light-heartedly but the truth is there.

hi guys,

forgot to reply to this thread anyways journey was all good apart from a lack of acceleration problem at high speeds. for some reason when i was doing about 80-85mph the car would struggle to go any faster as if the turbo didnt want to kick in. when this happened i tried to accelerate with foot to floor but it didnt want to go any faster. so i had to pull over, turn the car off for a few seconds then voila! everything back to normal. any ideas what this could be?

i filled my car to the brim and i mean the brim...with me letting as much air out as possible by pressing on the little button inside the filler cap. so in total i got 560 miles to the full tank with 10 miles showing on the dis. is this good or bad?

thanks

cammy
