Looking good Edd,

Cracking job so far. I’m no painting expert but a bit of heat to the panel between each this coat and you’ll be fine Sir. Just remember to not expect a full glossy coverage on the first few layers, have patience and slowly build up and it’ll start to look fantastic. The clear coat afterwards is where the shine start to pop. Try to use plenty of clear (more layers) on the leading edge of the bonnet for better stone chip prevention.

Watch a few YouTube clips to understand how experienced painters do this task with a rattle can. Also watch some of the bad clips from beginners to see what results are achieved if you don’t conduct a good preparation phase.

Hope this helps mate,

Kind regards,

Tom

Finally finished the bonnet, a lot learned shall we say!! Two attempts and several cans of paint later it good. Next time I'll buy better paint and more importantly lacquer. I'll also not be so nervous.

Today I also fit the restored headlights back in.

I also fit the new to me headlight washer bumper. Now this is nit a task I would recommend. I wouldn't do it again due to the tine required to change the bottles and route new wiring, it really isn't easy and the fixing on the washer system are fragile!

The bumper jets weren't working properly and leaking so I got an audi s3 pump of ebay and removed the rubber seal and spring inside the twin jets, swapping this meant no leak back and more pressure, success!!

See below video of the restored jets function and fitted to my car.

Great work Edd,

Glad you got the headlamp washer retrofit sorted. It’s a nice optional extra which is rare to come by these days.

Bonnet looks nice and shiny from the pictures Sir. It’s amazing what can be achieved with a rattle can with good preparation and a little heat.

This project is coming on brilliantly isn’t it.

Kind regards,

Tom

Decided with warm sun being out I'd rub the rust and slap some rust treatment on the axle.

Working well so far, impressed! Results look amazing, got some spray paint for it when cured.
Evening Edd,

Looks great that if it looks like mine currently does. I’ll be giving your chosen product a go over the next nice weekend.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello Edd,

Nice mats Sir. Where did you egg them, haha. Looks a rather nice place to sit.

Have you considered the TT pedal and bespoke footrest to compliment them.

Kind regards,

Tom

Little shot of bonnet painted. Me ad my old man will try again in summer but it's looking okay in normal light with a bit of driving dirt!

Evening Edd,

Nice work as usual Sir. I like the updates on this thread, really impressive to see what can be done by yourself with a bit of research. Car is looking great.

Kind regards,

Tom
