Black Mambo TDi75

Morning,
Does anyone have a top tip for stronger fixing of the little panel to the left of the glove box iid? It's a small curved panel with lots of slots in it.
Seems.looser than it should be.

Mine was loose, when I got the FSI, because the tab at bottom was missing. @A2Steve provided a replacement, (part, not tab!), and it's fine now.
Mac.

New alarm and fuel switch added now, finally can replace boot cover. All works as it should at last, feel so much less of a poor car now. Just bonnet to sort and the rear shock to fit and I'm done! Well apart from the worn switches.

Today's jobs were old mans mint low milage merc w212 air and cabin filter, then onto the Mambo! I've changed the bonnet fingers finally.

See the mastic rubbish on the old ones, and fitted new cups in the wings. Thanks to @2work and @Ami for the bits!
The bonnet now fits and removes correctly. Just flap to sort next week.

I also replaced the fuel filter, was a genuine one in there but fairly dirty.
And while under there I took the wheel arch liner off (dead easy) and made sure I could remove and replace the 16 nuts for the rear shock next week.
I changed the pollen filter that was 2013 model so the classic A2 footwell clean up ensued.

Oh wow look at that thing!!
Fan blowing quieter now.

The car is coming along really nicely now, driving much more direct adn repsonsive, jsut need to find source of blue smoke. It only smokes when you rev it after isdling for a minute hot. So suspect turbo leaking oil into exhaust. No turbo noise and car pulls strong so hopefully not a complete turbo required. Garage will have to do this for me though.

Welcome.

The story continues!
I've decided to stop driving the car tonight.
On the drive home I angled the mirrors to see the exhaust gasses as best I could.
When cold and up hill it was smoking, fairly bad, once warm nothing i could see. When I got home nothing much out back, even on rev or too.
Engine sounded and drove spot on to my ears and feet. However the smell from the exhaust wasn't normal.

I've spoken with the local garage and we're going to try a thick gasket repair depending on what's lurking under the head. If good (as it can be) this will coincide with an egr delete, timing belt water pump and turbo inspection.

Nervous times.

Exhaust smell could be several things other than head gasket. Could just be old stale fuel or an additive in the fuel to clean out the system that has not yet completed its cycle or even something external that is burning off the exhaust system - you didn't leave any rags down the back of the engine when you changed the tandem? I am not a fan of EGR delete. The AMF is vac operated so you can unplug the small vac hose and block the hose off to prevent vac leak.
I would have a compression test and a coolant pressurisation test done to check for leaks before starting to worry about the head gasket just yet.

Today's job in between ferrying daughter to football and making lunch was to replace the shock nsr.
I'd already checked the bolts can be ondone in previous 20minutes I had soke days ago, such is family life. I had removed the wheel arch cover last weekend too. Best to prepare or prepare to fail 🤔

Here you can see the glorious pointless mess of a shock that came off, doing nothing at all. It just collapsed and it won't extend under its own steam.

And here's the new one 😀 beauty, a job finally with a good outcome 100%.

All torques followed, new top mount and also new bottom bolt.

Need a boost as the coolant and head worries have been getting me down.

My feeling is that it's not the head, or head gasket.

It's amazing how many A2's have Cabin filters fitted like this. Just imagine how poor the air quality must be.

Along with the fuel filter (because of where it is located) these tend to rarely get changed if at all (even by dealers) and cause a whole host of problems.

Lesson there for everyone......change your cabin (or pollen) and fuel filters every two years along with the air filter too 👍
