Blanking off EGR valve on TDIs

Hi Folks,

I just had this done & within a few hundred yards the engine fault light came back on again.

I am also still getting the stumbling misfire to such an extent it stalls on hills.

Has anyone any idea of how to get the EGR reset to stick?

Balla. :(

I have my EGR blanked-off, and I think it requires a little ECU software tinkering to stop the EM light coming on, though I'm not sure. I probably drove about 20 miles with the blanking plate in place before having the car remapped, during which time the EM light did not come on, but it may have done eventually.

On a side note, I was on the IoM recently and looked for A2s everywhere I went. I saw a red petrol, but no TDIs. I briefly wondered whether mine might have been the only A2 TDI on the island, but you're proof that I was deluding myself!

I'm also loving your signature. :)

Thanks for the replies, folks.
It could be a really helpful one there, Tom.
I had a friend check & reset.
Fortunately, it was a single error relative to the EGR system output being out of range.
19586 EGR System regulation range exceeded P3130 intermittent.
He has reset it & I'll see how long it lasts like that.

Hi guys,

So is it ok to blank of the EGR sensor then? I thought it was there to improve the emissions, so don't you run the risk ogf the car failing its next MoT test? The reason I ask is that the EGR sensor on my 1.6 FSI petrol needs replacing (Engine Light is on).

I have the EGR blanked on my TDI. Diesels are tested for smoke at the MOT station, not for chemical content. Petrol EGR blanking presents problems, I believe, but owning an oil-burner, I've not really looked into it in any detail.

Light back on again.
Having looked at parts listings & line drawings of the system. I am replacing the intermittent EGR valve as failure mode seems to disable turbo & put you into limp mode.
I would ask though whether it makes sense to modify the ECU to accomodate the blanking plate?
