Blind spot

The thick pillars never bothered me until yesterday when I nearly ran over a man in his 50s or 60s in a multistorey car park in Portsmouth.

He was on foot and should not have been crossing (he hadn't looked) and a collision would probably have "only" been a bruised/cracked leg. I was only doing about 7-8 mph. But if he hadn't taken last minute evasive action I might actually have hit him - it was close and not a bit worrying as I had been concentrating fully and had not seen him at all.

I am a bit worried about this blind spot now as far as pedestrians are concerned and will adjust my driving in places like towns/multistoreys accordingly.

This is the first and hopefully last time I encounter this problem. But I had not appreciated just how big a blind spot the driver's pillar creates.

Hi Jon,

I have had quite a few near misses over the last year. On one accasion, I almost flattened a child a few doors away from my house - [:0]. It makes you feel like a bad driver.

LOL

Thought it was just me but I've nearly hit a Citroen Saxo (Would have done him a favour as his baseball cap was the wrong way around).

Also missed a Metro by a few mm, mind you if I had hit him I would have caused several pounds worth of improvements:)

As for the old guy, if you did hit him it would have saved us tax payers a few quid:D
