Boot catch needs slamming to close?

Hey lovely A2 people and Blessed Christmas! ❤️🎄

I need some help with my boot. If I close it normally ( as a normal door), it doesn’t always catch immediately. So I’ll close it and get into the driver’s seat and it’ll say the boot is open.

I’ll then have to go and slam it down really hard and firm before it will catch proper. I have since changed the gas struts, but the problem still persists.

Anyone know what I could do to solve this? Would love to just close it without major slamming. If anyone knows the part I’d need, do let me know too? I’d be happy to buy it and try swapping it out myself.

Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

I did have a similar issue, and it turned out to be the interior trim panel had come off a couple of it's clips. A quick whack to reseat it and no problems since.

Thanks for that! But would you know where these bump stops are? I eye balled my boot today in the sun and did not see where I might adjust anything.
They're on the each side of the hatch, not the body.

I had this too, when it would bounce back open. A little bit of grease on the mechanism helped a bunch.

Edit: changing the boot struts helped further as it slowed the speed the boot door would close.

Where did you get struts? Do you have a part number?
Evening James,

I’ve fitted Stabilise 8413HV to my A2s over the years and have no complaints at all; think many others have also fitted them to their A2s too:

Hope this helps out.

Hi Tom, does that pair-part no contain the 024335 struts or something else?
(I have been going for the 024335 myself being the recommended part for the A2)

Evening Joakim,

It’s been a while since we communicated so hope all is well…

Stabilus provide a very reliable aftermarket tailgate strut solution with their 8413HV part number offering being specifically meant for the Audi A3 and not the A2. They’re actually 10mm shorter than their A2 equivalent.

The 8413HV have an increased ejection force of 420n over the A2 specific struts which are 370n. What this boils down to is a stronger opening force which isn’t difficult to close. These struts also don’t shudder when the A2 tailgate is in the last few degrees of its fully open angle.

I’ve fitted to every single A2 I’ve used for any length of time. If you search through the archives on here you’ll see that these have been used by many members for years.

Hope this helps and fully answers your question Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

I've had the 8413HV on my FSI'zy for a year or so now. Excellent, smooth, no jerks at full opening, and closes without any force, every time.

Hi Mac,

They’re certainly a good aftermarket solution. I have no complaints either and that’s both with and without genuine Votex spoilers too. They even opened the tailgate on Project OEM with ease which sports the slightly heavier Votex style spoiler.

Normally I’d be one for saying stick with genuine parts but there really is no need to open the wallet for such items when these struts are just fine.

Kind regards,

Tom
