Boot mat?

Good morning all,

Just wondered if anyone knew where I can purchase a black rubber boot mat for my A2 which does not have the false floor fitted. There is one I’ve located on eBay which mentions “lower trunk” but the seller couldn’t clarify if this meant for cars without the false floor.

Many thanks

Morning other Tom,

I think I know which eBay listing you're referring too. I would say the 'lower trunk' item is what you're after. I too was considering fitting one; to the Project 250 A2.

Please add a link to the item you're interested in so the community can view it and give a recommendation. I'm no expert on these things and will wait for advice from others, then probably purchase one myself!

Kind regards,

Another Tom

Many thanks Tom. Given my breathtaking technical incompetence I am struggling to copy the link from eBay using my smart phone rather than laptop as I’m away on holiday. The title of the item is “TAILORED PVC BOOT LINER MAT for Audi A2 german version lower trunk” and it’s advertised for 25.99. Any views on the item would be very much appreciated. I’ve bought really good items in the past when I had a false floor but haven’t purchased one for the lower boot floor.

Hi Tom,

The very same item I’ve had in my eBay watch list for some time:

The link to the item is here.

It looks like it’ll fit on the lower boot floor but has anyone tried one of these.

Maybe we could get a third or even a fourth Tom to join on the conversation!

Kind regards,

Afternoon KozMo,

Thanks for the additional link, seems that for an extra £1 you possibly get the same item though. Different sellers but guess both items originated from the same production line. The images are identical.

Have you tried one of these. Can you comment on the fitting/quality.

Kind regards,

Tom

Many thanks for copying the eBay item into the link Tom. That’s the very same item I’ve been eyeing up.

It’s a shame the seller was no help regarding whether it will fit the non false floor lower boot. I’ve been hanging on the words “lower trunk.”

I will think about taking a gamble and ordering one when back from my holidays. If I do order one then I will post on the forum how it measures up.

In the meantime if anyone has managed to source a good fitting product then it would be great to hear from you.

Yes we should definitely form a A2 special interest sub group formed entirely of A2 owning Tom’s.

Very best,

Tom -the other non technical one

I’m fairly certain that I have a new unused one in the garage. I seem to recall I bought it years ago without realising it is designed for the lower floor, I have the spare wheel in there. I tried it in the upper area and then confined it to the garage. It will be the weekend before I am in a position to dig it out and try it in the lower area, but I’m happy to do so if that helps any.

Evening Darren,

Yes please for a picture of how this looks fitted.

I know the factory item fits perfectly but the OP is considering an aftermarket approach. If you have one of the said aftermarket boot floor coverings then please do get the camera out Sir. I too might be tempted in purchasing one for the 250 A2.

Kind regards,

Tom

Good morning all,

Tom sounds like you might now be sorted regarding boot mat.

I’ve just purchased a different boot liner on EBay to the one mentioned earlier in this strand. The item description is given below and the price is £20.99. I’ll let you know how good the product is and whether it fits when it arrives.

The “Fully Tailored Fit Black Boot Liner Tray Floor Mat Protector for Audi A2 (00-05)” for £20.99 from eBay fits my non false floor lower boot well. It’s seems as though it will be pretty durable and represents good value for money.

Hi Tom

I don't suppose you could share a photo of the liner in your boot? I'm actually looking for a boot liner to fit my false floor but can't seem to find any false floor specific ones around. Hoping maybe with a photo I can try deduce if it will work in my false floor, unless anyone has any other recommendations for false floor liners?

Thank you
Jess

It would probably have to be not quite so deep in order to to work properly with the false floor, due to the rake of the rear seat(s) shortening the distance from the rear edge the boot as you go upwards from the boot floor. There's also the extra corner to the right to think about, as long as you don't have the CD changer in that side of the boot. Audi did a hard deep-sided liner for the A2 to go on top of the false floor which would be perfect for standard SE cars. They do occasionally come up for sale but, having one myself, I can tell you they'd be a bit fragile to post so you'd need to be prepared to collect any one that you spot.

You are spot on as ever Proghound. If you go on eBay there are some non OE boot mats for cars with the false floor which have a different footprint to the one I purchased for the lower boot floor.
I would have preferred an OE liner were it to be available but the one I purchased is fine for my purposes.

@2work

Tom, slightly later than planned, I made an error, the one I have stored away is for the upper boot floor. It is good quality plastic but seats lowered to put in (a doddle then) and you lose the ability to store the first aid kit unless you really wedge it in.
