Boot Open Warning - Boot is Closed

Hi folks
On my 2002 A2 1.4 petrol the boot open warning light has started to come on in the dashboard
The boot is closed OK and is secure
I recently replaced the solenoid that the boot switch activates and it is opening and closing as normal - just annoying to have the warning light on!
Thanks in advance

You can check the boot switch by opening the rear door and locking the car, with the hatch open. If the boot switch is OK, it won't show as open on the dash. In that case adjust the catch on the hatch frame until it doesn't show open when it shouldn't.

Ok, there are two possible faults with the hatch door, first the door switch sensor (which could be defective) or the position of the latch on the hatch frame. You will find that if you open the hatch and then lock the car, if the door sensor is OK, no fault will be indicated on DIS. Try it! If so, the only other cause will be the position of the latch, which will be preventing the door from indicating closed. Adjust the position of the latch until everything is OK. It might take longer than you might think!

On my car if the hatch is open and the ignition is on and I lock the car the DIS still shows the hatch as open and the lock remains in the open position. Ignition off there is no DIS anyway on my car.

If you lock the car and the hatch lock remains in the open position, don't you have a problem with the lock? I cannot imagine that 1.2Tdi are any different! Here's a previous thread:

Thought i'd try mine. Fell at the first hurdle. Since the DIS is only on with the ignition ON, how can I lock the car, but still have a working DIS?

OK, read the previous thread, not lock the car, but push the hatch latch mech to the locked position. If DIS then shows no problem, the switch is OK, but the latch mech needs adjusting so that it actually locked when the hatch is closed.
If the DIS still shows hatch open, when the mech is fully latched (ie as if the hatch is closed and locked), then it the switch/sensor.is duff.
I think ...

OK - so opened the boot and put the lock to the closed position and turned on the ignition and the warning light is gone now
I guess that means that the switch is OK so the latch needs to be adjusted
Any advice on how to do that?
I presume it is the latch in the hatch itself that needs to be adjusted rather than the fixed bar which is in the body of the car that the boot lock grips onto?

With the hatch open and sitting in the car turned ignition on. DIS illuminated for open hatch. Now sitting in the drivers seat press the lock button on the drivers door. car locks all 4 door but does not lock the hatch due to the locking pawl being physically in the opened position DIS still illuminates. Now if unlock the car and with the hatch still open use a screwdriver to manually place the hatch lock into the lock position and repeat the test again with ignition on, the hatch shows closed and this time all 4 doors and hatch lock.
So conclusion the DIS warning shows that the hatch pawl is not fully closed.

No it is the striker plate that can be adjusted. Before you do anything else use a vacuum to suck out anything that is in the well below the striker plate as that could be preventing the hatch closing fully. Here is the manual page for the hatch....

Be patient - there are an infinite number of positions for the striker plate! Well almost!

Maybe worth putting a few bits of masking tape alongside the hasp, before loosening it. You can mark the current position with a pen, so you have a reference point.
It's easy to loose track of which direction you take without a reference. Been there, done that ...

Still check for forein object stuck in there before altering anything. If you drop the hatch from 6-8 inches from closed does this properly close the hatch?

So if I understand correctly, a door or the hatch has two sensors: one for 'locked'/'unlocked' (is that what OBD refers to as 'safe'/'unsafe'?) and one for 'closed'/'open'?

So, is it that, if doors/hatch are unlocked, by say the remote, and a door or hatch says 'open', then the car shows it (unless it has logged the door as problematic before, maybe, or it being the hatch?); however, if doors/hatch are locked, by say the remote, and car senses all locks are 'locked', then that's it, no check if door/hatch is open, and car does not show it?

My car has a problem with the right rear door not sensing being closed/open I think (the light doesn't come on when I open it), it does lock/unlock with the remote, and doesn't show up as a problem on the dash (even when driving the car with the doors unlocked). Is that a similar issue to the one BelleekBeetle has with the hatch, basically, the hatch not sensing its open/closed?

Not sure if I'm understanding how the door/hatch sensors work to be honest, and I hope I'm not being obtuse. :)

The door locks , and the hatch lock functionality are different. The hatch sensor is simply checking that the lock is fully engaged.
