1stly well done on a nice site, dont seem to be that many of the A2's around me so wasnt sure a forum would exist.

About the car, it was bought cheap 3k all in but did want its major cambelt service which has been done and all is well. Its now got 80k on the clock and runs sweet as a nut (1.4 petrol) I bought it for the mrs, but now drive it myself most of the time. (owned A4's and A6's in the past)

The questions:

Its develop an odd noise on start up, like the start motor is not disengaging it only does it for 2 seconds tops but is rather loud. Starter motor maybe?

Fuel consumption could be better i thought, what should it do to a tank of fuel, small tank that it is..

No CD player, standard tape deck only, can i buy a boot changer off ebay? any reccomendations here.

The wheels are a little scuffed, and i would like to change them to the same wheels i ran on my A4 http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v250/assasin-uk/Audi%20A4/?action=view&current=CIMG0223.jpg What sizes fill fit straight on and look good without messing around lowering etc.

Anyway to get a bit more out of it also, i dont expect 300bhp but is there a cheap easy boost to performance?

Thanks guys, sorry for the "war and peace" 1st post!

I get about 37mpg in Rosie over a 5 mile commute. It improves with a couple of longer runs, however.

The alloys on that A4 look like the 17" wheels fitted to the A2 Sport model, and replicas of thse can be fitted.

Hope you enjoy your new purchase! :)

I wrote a fitting guide for the boot mounted 6 disc changer, I only used Audi parts and it took me 6-7 hours, still cost me £500, but still £500 in my pocket and not Audis

Guide should be on this site, I am sure someone knows..

Hi markjames, welcome to the A2oc
As you say, the noise could be the starter pinion not disengaging immediately the engine fires up.
The link to shezlee's excellent CD changer fitting guide is attached. I don't think all head units are able to control the changer so check this out first. Note the A2 (and TT) changers have a unique part number -in spite of what most e.bay adverts say, so check carefully before buying

AMD do a chip for petrol cars but it only adds 10bhp. (costs around £400 I think)
Some members have had problems with big wheels rubbing the front ABS sensor wires. Use 'Search' in the top toolbar to check the archives for old posts on this subject

Cheers Spike

Spike is quite correct - as standard, some headunits are unable to control a cd changer.

However, a dealer or someone such as myself with a full version of VAG-COM and a fully registered interface, can recode ANY headunit to enable it to control a changer.

As a stop-gap, I've re-installed my original Chorus2 tape deck (I'll be fitting RNS-E in the next few days), which didn't control my iPod, that was until I recoded it using VAG-COM and now it sees and controls the iPod just as if it were a changer.

If you've got a button marked 'cd/cc' then you can add a changer as a rule.

Starter noise

My A2 developed this noise about a year ago, and has never got worse or caused a problem. Your description sounds like the same fault, a sort of whining whirring noise for a second or so immediately after the engine catches. Mentioned it to Audi at last service, and there is no easy fix, only new starter.
