Brake Caliper thing.

What do they call the part of the Front Brake Caliper that stays on the Stub Axle when you take t’other part off to change the Disc Pads please ? I made a mental note last time I fitted new Discs and Pads that one of mine looked a bit worn and probably should be replaced next time.

Isn't that all part of the stub axle? Do not recall anything else that comes off except splash guards.

Yes, part of the hub on the A2(unlike some which can be replaced).

What exactly is the problem? Perhaps one of our breakers can supply a good replacement one, just ask them for the correct side , or both!

Never had any problem with any of the Threads. The Wear / Corrosion seemed to be to the Square Lugs of the Steering Knuckle that point towards the outside of the car. They would, to my thinking, count as part of the Calipers if that part was seperate from the Steering Knuckle. From the diagram damadgeruk provided on the A2 they are part of the Steering Knuckle.

Do you mean the parts circled in red?

They are indeed part of the casting but usually respond well to cleaning and its more brake dust than wear and tear. The caliper floats on these 2 " rails "

Yes. On one side only of the A2 they looked to have thinned away too much, either corrosion or wear, or a combination of the two. Think it was the Drivers Side.

You will have to change the whole casting if you thing the wear is excessive, ask our recyclers if they have a good one first.

Any recommendation where I can buy New Steering Knuckle(s) please ?
Booking A2 in for a New Clutch. May as well get the Steering Knuckle(s) done at the same time.

Ta.

That will also involve new bearing, probably abs sensor and back plate
Shared component with fabia, polo etc
Autodoc from £40 per side 6Q0407255R Left And 6Q0407256R right

Are all A2 Steering Knuckles exactly the same, apart from the obvious being Left and Right / Nearside and Offside ? I’ve seen used ones where the seller has specified what Model they are from eg 1.4 Petrol, TDI 90, 1.6 FSI Are they different ?

If you look at the schematics you will see for example
left
*>>8Z-1-007000
6Q0 407 621 AJ
This indicates if your VIN number is lower than this you use this part number

Also in the choice of schematics there is a VIN

That is not to say the early part is now superseded by the later part number.
Ah yes, see what you mean, but 6Q0 407 621 AJ is the hub, and that is the same hub as used for newer cars too from what I can see. So in the end I cant see an actual difference. But I might very well be missing something, just reading 7zap, and its not very human intuitive part numbers for sure.
EDIT: you bet me to it.
