I've just had the first long life service check at 40.000 km. The dealer tells me that there is about 5000 km left on the front brake pads, but that the brake discs are already worn down to under minimum measure.
I would expect the pads to be "softer" than the discs, so that the discs could wear down more pads before changing them.
Have any of you experienced this too? If yes, what did yoy pay for changing it all? My danish dealer says 590 €, that sounds quite expensive to me.

This job can be done by any garage or by yourself if you are a bit handy.
I had the same thing done a couple of weeks ago for my van also front brake pads the Fiat said this job would cos t about €240,-
Now I let a small non dealer garage do the job for me and it has cost me € 125,- >
So I reckon it is worth double checking.

During the time I had my Polo (45000 miles) I changed the front Pads three times, front discs changed twice and had the rear drums checked and cleaned once but they where never changed.

Drove it quite hard, Tyres lasted 8000 miles.

Pads and discs (fitted) £180
Pads only (fitted) £50
Drum cleaning and checking £30

At my first service, 32000miles, I thankfully only had to change both the pads and not the discs... is that normal then?

I think the pads on the 1.2 TDI are very expensive - ask Frido! But let us know how you get on.
