Brake wear warning light

The brake wear warning light came on a couple of weeks ago and I finally got around to having a good look today at the front brakes. As a precaution I had bought new pads although having been replaced barely 10k miles ago I was surprised the pads had apparently worn. As expected they are hardly worn however i noticed the brake wear indicator wire outer sheathing has rubbed through, so how can i a) disable or b) replace the brake wear connector?

Hi,

You should be able to rejoin the cable surely?

If not then joining the two ends together (electrically) will stop the warning light until you can get it fixed.
There is a repair loom available for this.

But don't damage the ABS sensor wires that run in the same area.

Thanks Steve however the wire appears intact so I don't think it is as simple as reconnecting two disconnected ends.

with my old a2 i had the same problem. what i had to do was follow the wire up through the wheel arch and inside the right hand side of the engine bay underneath the filler tank. i then sliced into the black plastic/rubber loom so that it exposed the 2 wires needed to short circuit the warning light, i did this by connecting them with a pin. there should be a thread somewhere on here telling you which colours to cut and join but remember this is only a temporary fix :)

Hi
Cammy is spot on.

What has happened is that the constant vibration from the wire rubbing has broken the wire further up the loom

If you do as Canmy suggests that will extinguish the warning until you get the repair loom, which you connect to where you have made the temporary fix. So it is not a wasted fix.

I think the colours are red and yellow. But check the thread
