Brakes, droplinks, bearings, blah blah blah

Could be worth having a look at HEL braided brake lines / hoses - around the £50 mark depending on periodic Ebay discounts etc. I have them on all three of my A2s.

If you fit these then want to maintain your callipers how do you clamp the pipe to avoid fluid loss? Or do you plug the connection at the ABS unit?
I’ve often wondered.

I have no idea as they were only fitted over the past 18 months and the calipers haven't needed servicing in the intervening period - maybe try asking @rosscanning who got them before I did in case he has more experience. My local mechanic who fitted them used to work on hydraulics in heavy plant so I presume he has a work-around. As it happened the originals were all really tatty so I'm glad I replaced them.

If you leave you take your brake fluid cap off (vented) and put a piece of polythene bag over the filler then replace your cap fluid loss should be minimal (vacuum principle).
I would be changing my brake fluid at the same time anyway, probably to silicon, so the loss will be negligible.
