Brakes

Dear Wise ones,

I have a noise coming from (I think the rear?) which only happens when I put my foot on the brake!

Do A2's have warning lights on both and rear brakes?

Thanks for all your help again,

What sort of noise, a sort of squeaking grinding noise? Does it only happen when you brake the first few times? Do you have the TDi 90?

Hi Heidi987321,

You have a TDI 75 with rear drum brakes? Is the sound like a loud groaning sound? If it is, then it is simply a build up of brake dust in the drum. You may hear it more often after the car has been sitting for a few days and when slowly going down a hill e.g. going down the ramp in a multi-storey car park.

If the sound goes away after a day or two of using the car, everything is fine. This happens to my TDI too occasionally. If the sound persists then I would suggest that your brake shoes need replacing.

John.

Yes it is a TDi 75 with drum brakes the noise is a metal on metal sound but it does not sound all the time!

It does sound when going up or down hills but the car never stands for a few days as it is our main car!

I would agree with poor john, as i have had the same issue on mine in the past, all that was required was a quick clean, you may want to take the oportunity to adjust brakes (be careful of that brake dust though) reassemble and back on the road
