Broken rear seat handle

Okay I've spent most of the day trying to release a rear seat.

Symptoms are that the seat release handle appears to have broken. When pulling it does not grip at all and is just flapping loosely.

The only way I can see of releasing the bolt is to cut through it. - Luckily the seat is scrap as I have some leather going in the car.

However, the first question to be answered is, is it worth going through the hassle of cutting the bolt, if I do cut through it will the seat folder forward and be releaseable?

Or is there an easier way to release the bolt without cutting through it (from the top perhaps?)

Just an update on my day, it has mostly been trying to cut through the bolt. I've so far gone through 2 metal files, 2 reciprocating saw blades, 2x angle grinder discs. The issue is mainly getting the blade to make contact with the bolt itself due to the angle of the seat back and how far back the bolt is in the seat base.

Have you checked through this thread?

Hi Jeremy,

If it has taken most of the day with little gain as the seat is scrap I would think about attacking it from the front of the seat, cut out the cloth and foam and anything else that gets in the way, annihilate it, and see if you can get access to the end of the bolt to to push it (hammer) out to release.

Just an idea.

Andy

… and a combination of the suggestions from the back seat stuck thread I finally managed to get the seat removed... PHEW!

Well done Jeremy. Now you only have to worry about the replacement seat doing the same thing. Something that we all hope never happens to us but does appear to be happening more frequently now.
