Broken Sky; my turn! I may have good news though...

Yup, 'crack' and that was that, one unclosing roof:rolleyes:
It leaves me with a couple of decisions, the main being should I just sell it as it is and start again with the tdi/fsi that I originally wanted....hmm:confused:

Anyway, I may have some good new regarding OSS.....

I work next door to an Audi dealership and know a couple of the techs there (we all went to the Nurburgring last weekend....glad it didn't break then!) and asked them a couple of weeks ago about servicing and fitting the repair kits to it, even though it wasn't broken then I thought prevention is better than cure:eek:
One of them, who has just finished removing, stripping down, rebuilding & refitting a TT roof, took my chassis number and got the relevant info from Audi.
He was prepared to do it and we were going to discuss when next week...
Obviously the situation is now a tad different but I need a glass roof so I'm going to approach them regarding fixing it. The main sticking point may be the tooling, which leads to my next question;

how many people would be prepared to travel to North Kent to get their OSS fixed and what would they be prepared to pay?

I know dealerships in Germany fix them but if 1500miles (for me in the southeast), a couple of ferries and a couple of nights in a hotel can be saved it's got to be worth investigating, hasn't it?

I couldn't get it fully closed last night so it's tucked up in the garage, any hints for getting the last couple of mm closed?

If mine breaks (and its a bit ruddery now) I would go to North Kent to get it fixed for sure. so long as it wasn't TOO expensive... keep us updated. I think a garage that set up as an OSS repair specialist would not be short of work

Yeah, I'd happily make the journey down from the North West in order to have mine fixed, but it's all dependent on price. I don't know whether my OSS works or not because the gearing cogs in the motor are slipping. Keep us posted!

Cheers,

Tom

I'm looking to buy an FSi with OSS so I've already factored for a repair - so I'd be interested as the others have said it all comes down to price

:)Thumb down for the brokeness I assumed ;)

It hasn't started well, tech has said it'd be a waste of time approaching the management, however he's going to have a thorough read-up on what's what and we'll go from there...

My A2 may be disguised as a guinea pig for a while:eek::(

Oh well, I may as well take advantage of the Passat not selling by using for that for a while to free-up a bigger garage....after it all, it's only done a couple of miles on it's new clutch, rack and service :(

It's not quite the last nail for Finland but it's far too close for comfort :(

...if mine every failed, I would make the travel to get it fixed!! :)

To close that last few cm's, if you look under the panel where you open close, there is a hand winder to open/close in case of breaking down.

Sorry can't be more specific as I've never had to investigate, but I posed the question to the Audi sales person when in the process of buying my A2!

I would come to North Kent to get mine fixed - when it breaks. Mind you, if it was costly, I would consider just keeping it closed, as I could live with it just being for cosmetic purposes. So ultimtley, it would depend on cost. Anything over £200 - £250 and I would have to have a serious think about it. Mind you, If it was jammed open with no way of closing it, may be prepared to spend a little more.
