Team A2,

Just had my second long-life service (40,114m) and received a call from the stealership saying that they recommended i needed a new timing belt/cam belt!!!

I had to giggle at him saying its not normally until 80,000m possible 60,000m if you feel a little flash with the cash!!!

They tried to cover their tracks by saying it now recommended since 2003.

Has anyone else had the same pleasant phone call?

Hi Wade,
Looks like yours is a 2004 Tdi, based on this I think the 4 yr recommendation is where they are coming from, you see many here drag it out much longer (I did 5yrs on my very low mileage petrol) but having had cambelts go before (not on an A2) and seen 4 figure bills for its repair
I believe better safe than sorry

remember it is both time and mileage dependant and a belt can deteriorate when it is not being used particularly if there is any contamination you cannot actually see under the belt cover. if you say how long it has been since the belt was changed you may get some more useful responses. did mine at 5 years
