cam belt renewal

Err by all accounts it is a b****r of a job! I think the belt kit is about £130 and then you might as well change the water pump at the same time - this is an exchange item I think.

I considered it, then phoned around until I found a dealer with a sensible labour rate at let somebody else so it! Good luck.

Hi Jerry
I did the job a while ago and made a few notes which are covered in this post - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=37627&postcount=9

Spike,

You must surely loosen the three screws that secure the pulley to the camshaft and thus leave it free to move when the belt is tensioned, otherwise when you tension the belt you would only tension one side as the crank is locked, as of course is the camshaft? This is the purpose of loosening the screws and turning the pulley clockwise, as on tensioning it will move counter-clockwise.

I would certainly recommend anyone doing the job slackens the camshaft pulley screws for the reasons you gave, as I will do next time.
Maybe I was lucky but as a final check I wound the engine over a few times by hand and refitted the crank locking tool. All the marks aligned perfectly and I was able to insert the cam pulley locking pin without force.

Cheers Spike
