Hi all can someone give me some advice, i've seen this posted on another thread about a can bus adapter to work with after market head units, the link was for one on Ebay in germany can we get hold of them in the uk, when i went back to find the link to post it here seem to get lost and couldn't remember where i had seen it or who had posted it

Cheers Phil

Hi thanks for that but no, the one that i had seen was for can bus adapter my german is not very good i can make out a few words but pictures i can do, and from the pictures on Ebay it looks like it plugs in with the iso cables for the head unit, its a black box and you choose the cables that you need .

Cheers Phil

It is requirered for Models 2002 and newer. Otherwise you need to tie wires to the radio. For 2000 and 2001 models, it is not required.
Yes, that is what he needs, did not found any on ebay.co.uk

I think it depends what Grim is trying to do Erstens, i fitted a Alpine head unit to my 2004 A2 using a wire harness adapter and aside from a couple of minor issues its been fine. The can bus adapter that i linked too provides a switched live to the head unit and possibly a switch for the dimmer function (i think, not 100% sure though), but both of these could be overcome through hard wiring which will be chaeper option than the £70 odd pounds their asking for it.

If you want to fit a CANBUS enabled head unit to a car that has no CANBUS, then you'll need a CANBUS emulater, which i think is what the ebay unit does. As i understand it, the CANBUS enabled head unit needs to see an CANBUS signal, other wise it will shut down after a certain time.

That's what it is for, right!
The links I gave here: http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=53984&postcount=6
are for this function. So that an aftermarket radio will turn automatically and so. They are not emulators you need if you install a CAN required radio, as you thought they might be good for.

So he can use the new radio without that but he has to turn on the radio allways and off also by himself.
I suggest to buy such adapter because it brings more compfort;)

HI all thanks for the posts, erstens that was the link that i had seen. I was just looking through some old posts and came across that link, german not very good well no good at all, anyway i had fitted an after market head unit and i'm replacing thas one for a ipod connect one, last time car was on diagnostics was saying no radio so i thought this would make it look like there was a radio there and so complete the can bus
