Can you buy A2 dipsticks that work?

Hi,

I've searched previous threads for information on the A2 oil dipstick and I see that it's not exactly uncommon for people to find it impossible to tell what their oil level is. There was mention of a dipstick that has an orange tip that some people found much better and others said was still difficult to read with new oil. Has anyone managed to replace their dipstick with the orange tipped one and, if so, how have you found it? Bearing in mind how much oil the A2's get through, it would be nice to have a dipstick that works.

Regards.

my old A2 had an orange tipped dip stick and I still found it impossible to get a true reading. The car that I drive now (Polo) has an all black dip stick and I can read that with no problems. maybe its because its not 5 foot long (well the A2 dip stick seams that long)

I have the orange tipped dipstick and I honestly don't have aproblem checking the oil level with it.

I too have the easy to read orange tipped dip stick!!:D

Not sure if Audi decided to change the design in later models, but I would not be surprised as it seems that earlier model dip stick reading can be quite problematic.

I guess a salvage yard may offer a replacement from a later rear ended model for a reasonable price, (well reasonable compared to Audi prices at any rate!!). I should think the later variant would be a straight forward replacement, though I guess the petrol variants may differ from their diesel counterparts.

i have an orange tipped dipstick but i also have a light on the dash to let me know if oil level is low so i dont need to check oil level so religously.is this the same on all a2`s as i am looking to pension mine off when a suitable replacement comes up.

Yes it is - even non-DIS A2s have the orange oil warning function on the dash read-out.

Cheers,

Mike

The only problem I have when checking the oil level is that I have to rotate the dip stick a couple of turns once inserted. I believe it needs a helping hand to reach the oil level.
