Car insurer taking mick

Hi all. Having insured my A2 since 2017 with one of the leading car breakdown assistance companies, i was confident in knowledge of being with a reputable company. That confidence has been shattered by a very unrealistic insurance qoute just because i moved house. Postcode almost stayed the same(1 prefix out but still same area code) , and all car details remaimed same. Both my wife and daughters car insurance remained same cost. My new insurance qoute was till june 2020 and sky rocketed to £2.2 k! If this was not acceptable i will have to pay £55 to cancel my policy due to them not being able to offer me a reasonable qoute. Now the A2, last time I checked wasn't in the SUPERCAR/HYPERCAR insurance car bracket and isn't made of gold.

Does your insurer come up on comparison sites? If so try getting a quote as a new policy with new address and see what price comes up. If it is a lot cheaper ring them up and ask them if they will do it at that price.
Or you may even get a cheaper deal cancelling and moving to a new provider including the £55 cancellation fees

Hi guys. No insurer isn't on comparison websites. And original qoute for year was £320.

Have you moved to a new build? We did earlier this year and insurance for our cars went stupidly high, so we left them registered at the previous address as our friends were renting from us, now 6 months on have transferred as it is now cheaper than the last address. We were told insurance companies hype new builds as they cannot equate the new postcode. If it is not a new build the only other reason would be you have had a birthday since the start of the policy and pushed you into old man category.

Hi. No house is older than our previous house. Really can't understand the hike in price on A2. As said my wife's 16 plate polo tdi sel and daughter's 13 plate up 'black edition' insurance costs are same. Why is a 16 year old car commanding such an increase in costs???
And been in my 40's now for 8 long years.

In Norway you have various level of coverage. I have the minimum coverage and pay £9 per month. That includes 15000km/year

Switch to another insurer and be done with it. I'm assuming you have a decent no-claims entitlement and at least three years without a claim.

Does that only cover 3rd parties, we have this in the UK but in most cases it more expensive than full cover

Crazy price sally and I only pay £360 fully comp for a 996turbo with agreed valuation and milage max 6k ..is that because we are in our mid 60s retired ?...

Simply put; if I mess up, it covers the other part, but not my own car. It does not cover theft, frontshield stonechips nor fire.

But as the cars cost close to nothing, it is no big financial risk.

We have this that’s called 3rd party cover here, but strangely I’ve never seen it cheaper.

Seems UK insurers assume one is prepared to take risks if only third party insurance is requested and load the premium. Can't sat I've checked though may do so, seems daft to pay more for insurance than the cost of the car.

I guess in Norway a lot of accidents involve one car? As it can get quite slippy?

No, do not believe so considering number of accidents per 100k persons and average age of car (2 more years than UK)

Insurance done. Managed to get a multi car insurance and only cost £240.
Never gonna use previous insurance company again.
Thanks Steve

Well done, I use a specialist Classic Insurance for all my motors, they tend to quote the same price for ANY and all A2s. I think I pay around £275 per A2, about £320 for the Boxster and ... £129 for the Rocco ;)
