Car not starting. Any help?

If space allows i'd say give it a push for a jump start then get it home to inspect properly, just don't stall :D

It sounds like a starter issue if lamps dim when trying to start but nothing happens, could be jammed/stuck or something (do recall uncle with old audi carrying a wooden log type thing to beat on the starter)

Would happily drop by if you were closer to give a hand, maybe other members near - always nice to have a second of the same to swap some easier parts over.

Can also check resistance/continuity with a multimeter on the starter contact to battery i guess?

Thank you to everyone who offered advice and assistance. Cleaned up the earth for the starter motor and yes it started. Was not long ago that I cleaned it. Still looked shinney before I attacked it again with sanding paper followed by white vinegar and salt. Feel embarrassed now...but chuffed to have the car back on the drive.

I wonder if your earth cable is compromised and by taking it off again you 'accidently' reinstated enough electrical continuity. This post by Sarge, albeit in a FSI context but I cant't see that mattering, suggests test with a good tug.

Thanks Andy, I have the cable a tug and all seemed well and felt the cable all the way back from the earthing point to the starter motor. Visible and touch seemed fine although Intake Sarge's point that any damage may be hidden from view. Will defo get a new cable when get chance to fit.
