Catalytic Converter (again)

I posted another thread asking if anyone knew where I could get an A2 1.6 cat other than from a main dealer. In my searching I have come across two options but need advice as to whether they are stupid or a good way of doing it a bit cheaper.

Option 1 - Buy a used part (£130) but is this going to break down in a few months?

Option 2 - www.catman.co.uk have told me that the part is only available from a dealer but have offered to 'recondition' mine for £225. Not really sure what this involves but is it just going to need replacing within the year anyway??

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Emma

hi emma do you know which cat you need as there is 2 on the 1.6 fsi. i have recently had both of my ones changed, i went for audi ones at £750 it isn't cheap. my independent garage told me the front cat is audi only but the rear cat is available from euro parts. as i dont plan on selling my car i bit the bullet and went for genuine parts. audi ask for the old ones back i guess as a recycling promise. infact they charge you if you dont return the old ones. i am interested in the guy that offers recon cats---do they have a warrenty? i cant see why a recon one wouldn't be ok and its a good price. caution when ordering your cat as there are two types of cat for the fsi. as i found out after audi sent the wrong one.please let us know how you get on mike

It's the rear cat but I can't find it on Europarts for a 1.6? If it is and I'm just missing it could you paste the link up?

Apparently the reconditioning option come with a 12 month warranty but having never used 'Catman', I don't know if I can rely on that or not. But i theory, you can't see a problem in getting mine reconditioned?
