The base model and SE in 2001 had a basic display which was about half the size of the rectangle.
You could at the time upgrade to DIS which gave more info however the first owner would have had to spec it (standard on sport models).
Yes it’s possible to upgrade to either DIS or colour DIS, I wanted DIS on mine however got swayed by the functionality of colour DIS which I had fitted by @timmus and it’s brilliant.
