Central locking fault

So my other half tells me yesterday that the car doesn't seem to be locking with the remote key fob. Apparently this has been going on for a month since we had some work done on the car which probably required the battery to be disconnected. I'm still not driving the car due to my arm so haven't been pouring over it with my usual obsessive eye of late.
She says the alarm arms with the key fob but you can still open the doors, which triggers the alarm.

What's occurring?
Is it a simple re-sync of the keys required, or is the CCCU playing up?

Just put the key into the ignition and turn the car on, then (without starting it) just press the unlock button on the fob while it is in the ignition and it should click the locks.

take it out and all should be fine !!!

That is assuming that the battery in the fob is still ok.

Re-synched the keys.
Lights do not flash when you lock the car with the fob. 3 doors lock, but left rear door does not.
CCCU problem, or door control microswitch problem?

My money would be on the microswitch in the door that is not locking!!

Any tips for microswitch repair or replacement?

I haven't done one for 10 years and so I can't remember. (I keep forgetting I have a bad memory)

A few have first hand recent experience on here and will be along shortly.

It'll be one of the microswitches in the rear left lock that's causing the problems, I'm fairly sure. The microswitches are integrated into the lock assemblies, so basically you'll need a replacemt lock.
To replace the lock, you'll need to strip the rear door down as far as I did when I retrofitted your rear electric windows; basically the frame needs to be removed, meaning realignment during reassembly.

I've got a few used but working replacemt locks for both rear doors if you're interested, though you may want to replace with new given the hassle. I think the locks are about £70 from Audi.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks. Any way I can force it to stay locked in the meantime while I get it fixed?

If you lock it via the button on the drivers door, doesn't it lock then either?

Anything else is likely to require taking the door card off and disconnecting the door handle or something and you might as well wait until you have the replacement lock. Unless someone on here has a tip!!!

I kinda remember someone posting something on here about fixing the microswitch, but it is likely to only be a temporary fix and will entail a lot of stripping anyway, I guess?

I had this same problem ..... It wasn't the micro-switch ...... it was the rubber covered connector in the door-pillar!

Hi Dan,

Does the dodgy door respond to some commands? i.e. can you hear it unlocking when you press the unlock button on the fob? Can you hear it attempting to lock itself, etc? Does the window operate as normal? If so, the CAN link through the B-pillar is good and David's suggestion can pretty much be ruled out.

If through repeated attempts you can get it to lock, then try to get it to lock with the door card already removed. Then you can simply disconnect the lock loom from the door control module and it'll stay locked until you get a replacement lock.
Be aware that, with the lock disconnected, you'll not get the usual indicator flash when locking the car.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom
The electric windows all work as normal. Not sure if you can hear it attempting to lock. Can't check until tomorrow.
There is no indicator flash when you lock it now.

Hi David - thanks - do you mean the connector had come loose?

There was corrosion and poor contact on the terminals. I simply sprayed everything with "Servisol" "Super 10", re-connected, and it all worked fine again! I wonder if you have had to open this socket, recently, for one of your mods?

Managed to check the car door at the weekend. There is no mechanical noise at all from the rear door when the car is locked/unlocked.
The electric window works fine, however.
