Gloss black wheels are coming along nicely but im undecided what to do with the centre caps...........suggestions guys.DSC_0003 (1).jpg

Take the rings out and paint the grey centre part black leaving the brushed alu ring.
That comment is amazing! That is JUST what I've done today! WHAT a coincidence! I've got pepperpot centre caps which are a larger diameter than those fitted to other wheels. I carefully removed the centre Audi ring logo's by pressing them out in a vice. It's necessary to use packing behind either side of the logo. Care is needed to avoid breaking the lugs, but I managed to do it for each logo. In a similar way the chrome plated outer edge-ring can also be removed. I'm now going to spray the main component in gloss black. That will then contrast perfectly with my super high-polished pepperpot alloy wheels.

I wasn't sure if the ali rim would come off so gave it a go, banding the three tabs on the back then slowly with a flat screw driver I peeled the rim of the al;i over and the surround popped off, no need to mask anything now.

That's the first bit, yet to add the rings and surround. Done with gloss plastikote.
I've just finished using that material ... plastikote. I found it quite difficult to get a good finish. Normally, I'd spray several layers thinly using a delay of about 20 minutes between each. No this didn't work with this paint! So I first left the spray-can in hot water to pre-heat the contents. Then I continuously sprayed the cap in various directions until a dense and glossy layer could be observed. With a steady pace and the correct distance, there were no runs. The effect is quite pleasing and I'll leave everything over 24 hrs to fully dry. So the findings are that the paint has to be applied continuously and in just one session. I hope that this is helpful ...

Pepperpots, too! It won't be too long before I'm fitting my (highly-polished) pepperpots! Your photo has given me that incentive!

David, i'd recommend using some ceramic wax over the laquer on the wheels. It should help to protect the laquer from the road salt this winter if you are fitting them going into winter.

Thanks Steve. I paid the Guy another £70 to have that done. (Not by him) However, when I first looked at the wheels, it wasn't obvious that any further coating had been applied. I said that to him and he replied "I'm not in the habit of ripping people off" , so I've just taken it on trust that they HAVE been coated! I'll just look for corrosion over time, that's all I can do.
