Centre console above the radio etc

There is a LARGE square marked out on top of the centre console.
What is directly below it ?

Reason for the question is a DECENT sat nav / entertainment screen COULD fit in their nicely.
Thought I would ask the collective before I start cutting

There's nothing underneath, actually very little space to fit anything.

Does anyone know what the 'empty square' bit of trim is on top of the dash? i'd like to be able to take it off and maybe make a tray of sorts but not sure if its possible? Drew
