Changing an ECU

A few weeks ago, my wife's Lupo 3L failed to restart. My first thought was that the tandem pump had failed but on scanning with VCDS, the ECU did not show. I checked all the relevant fuses but all were OK. I then found a replacement ECU on Ebay and purchased it for £25; taking a bit of a chance but I know from experience that Lupo 3L's are much more likely to be scrapped for other reasons than a failed ECU. I fitted the ECU but the engine would only run for a few seconds because of the immobiliser. At least I had proved that the problem was the ECU. However, as the immobiliser is GEN 2, the ECU is easily adapted with VCDS, see here:

Try Instruments first (17) but if that doesn't work, try Immobiliser (25). For the Lupo it is 25. The Gen of the immobiliser is shown on the original tag attached to the plastic key, if you still have it. It also shows the Immobiliser/ECU PIN, if you need this for other purposes. My 2001 A2 is also GEN 2, later A2's might not be.
