Changing hand-break lever

Hello fellow A2ers.
I have recently purchased a replacement for my old hand-break lever.
I can't seem to get it fit though, could someone give me a hand on this one?
A guide would be nice, and very appreciated. Thanks. :)

Errrrrrr.... I believe I misspelled hand-brake. Was in a hurry..

Esson,

I assume that you refer to the grip only?!

This is simply a pull off and push on fit. Don't be afraid to put a bit of energy into the removal, especially if this is the first time that it has been removed, as it may be a bit stiff!! Refitting is a reversal of the removal.

Cheers,

Darren

Don't yank it off, there is a very small push clip on the underside (use a pin or very small screwdriver). Push in the spring clip and the grip just will slide off. :D

These parts, and also, the grip.
I have the exact same part as in the picture above.
I think mounting the whole thing, and replacing the grip from my current hand-brake would be easier than trying to get the lower plastic part off the above hand-brake device and fitting them to my current hand-brake device.

Esson,

With the grip removed, next remove the handbrake knob itself. This is done by inserting a small screw driver, (or equivalent), into the two holes in each side of the handbrake handle shaft - just below the knob itself. The idea is to push the locating pins in, (both sides), to release the knob which sits on a spring. Once the knob is removed the metal ring simply slides over the handbrake shaft. The main plastic base is again fastened to the car by plastic locating pins. To release, simply pull this forward toward the front of the handbrake as per the grip and this too will slide over the shaft. Again refitting is a reversal.

Esson,

You're welcome and good luck. It should only take around 5 minutes to do the swap.

As for my reference to the plastic base being being fastened to the car by plastic locating pins; my old grey matter might be playing tricks there, on reflection I can't quite recollect whether it is or whether is is just simply a snug fit over the mechanicals of the handbrake. Either way, the process for removal and refitting remains the same.

Cheers,

Darren
